CF-BKX began as a lease aircraft with the RAF as KN392. In 1950, it was transferred to the RCAF as 12917. It served there for only about a year before being sold to Northward Aviation as CF-BKX. It served with Northward, Gander Aviation and Lambair before being bought by Ontario Central in 1980.
This crash occured on Febuary 15, 1983. The aircraft was overloaded when it departed from Gillham's small airport. Soon after takeoff, engine #1 backfired and failed. The pilots managed to successfully feather the engine, but the overloaded aircraft failed to maintain height and made an emergency landing. All 4 people on board survived.
The wreckage was not salvaged as it is in a very remote location.
