On April 9, 1955, the 10th Squadron of the Royal Australian Air Force recieved a call about an extremely sick child needing evacuation to a hospital. The 10th squadron picked up the child (and her sister) and took off from RAAF Townsville en route to Eagle Farm Airfield where the child and her sister would be dropped off. Mid flight, the aircraft encountered some poor weather. They decided to fly under it in order to make sure that the passengers had a comfortable flight. At some point, during descent, A73-64 began to go off course. Extremely lost, the Lincoln crashed into Mt Superbus with the loss of all 6 on board.
A lot of the wreckage remains on site. However, a large part of it (In fact, I believe that that large part is what is mainly visible in the street view image) was acquired by the Royal Australian Air Force Museum.
