73-0088 was the 27th F-15 built for the United States Air Force. At the time of the crash, F-15s had not officially started serving with the USAF.
On October 14, 1975, 73-0088 took off from Luke Air Force Base on a routine sortie. It was set to return back to Luke after performing normal F-15 sortie stuff. However, shortly after takeoff, it suffered a generator failure that resulted in a fire. The pilot was forced to eject, and the pilotless F-15 crashed. This was the first crash of an F-15.
The wreckage is somewhat intact, with the midsection of the aircraft staying together for the most part.
