N160JN was delivered to the Royal Air Force in 1942 with the registration AJ616. It was retired around 1966 and was bought by a private owner in 1966. In 1970, it was bought by Michael Barr, its final owner.
On December 14, 1971, Barr took off from Denver after a day of work (yes, his work commute was his plane). He was bound for his hometown of Steamboat Springs. However, during the flight he disappeared. The next day, a United Airlines flight picked up a downed locator beacon which was assumed to be from Barr's T-6. After multiple days of searching, the wreckage was found. Barr had not survived the crash. According to the NTSB, the cause of the crash was improper flight planning, with contributing factors of weather and downdrafts.
The wreckage was partially salvaged but most of it remains at the site.
