Boeing 727 21348/1287 was delivered to Singapore Airlines in 1977 as 9V-SGB. It served there for three years before being transferred to VASP as PP-SMK. 2 years later, it was bought by Alaska as N26729 then was re-registered as N293AS in 1986. From then until 2011, it served with multiple airlines as N293AS: Express One International, AvAtlantic and Champion Air. It was sold as XB-MNP in 2011.
In 2012, a team of scientists acquired XB-MNP. It was fitted with cameras, various scientific instruments and crash test dummies, to be used when the plane was crashed intentionally! On April 27, 2012, it took off from Mexicali with a pilot on board and another scientist ready to control it later. The pilot flew the aircraft out of residential areas, then bailed out. The scientist with the remote control then crashed the plane in an empty area. The crash was filmed live on TV, and because of that is in multiple memes- You can probably find it in a slander video or two. You know, the 727 crashing with the cockpit breaking off!
The aircraft was salvaged and was moved to a field near Highway 5, where it has stayed since.
