We open this week, and I can't tell you how much I am enjoying being a part of the magic that happens when actors, designers, directors, sound engineers, production developers, and crew comes together for "We're at places, people!" When you're like me and you weren't lucky enough to grow up in theatre, being able to find a tribe where you can feel the magic and know you make a difference is a wonderful feeling! We've just come out a very productive tech weekend, and I cannot wait for Greenville to see how hard these talented individuals have worked and to see their unforgettable, moving performances in Cabaret at Centre Stage, opening Thursday, March 13, 2025 and running through March 30.
Cabaret reminds us to leave our troubles outside and to have fun, relax for a few hours. It asks viewers What Would You Do as they look at themselves in and within social politics making a point that just ignoring things isn't always the solution. Viewers are sure to see parallels while they laugh and cry - sometimes being shocked - in this wonderful production directed by Clare Shaffer. Haley Brown's lighting design works magic with simple, static set allowing theatre goers to be transported to a, as Centre Stage tagged the show, a 'different time and place'. Alex Thompson's musical direction and show sound design is, at times, erie and makes it point beautifully. I'm grateful to have worked under these talented folks while under Samantha Eyler's stage management. Every day is such a blessing to shadow such amazingly talented individuals.
