This Privacy Policy explains how the Android app Baby Calling handles data.
Baby Calling is an app that allows an Android device to be used as a baby device in order to locally analyze microphone input, classify sounds, and, depending on the selected settings, alert a caregiver either by phone call or through a paired parent device on the local network. In live mode, the app can also transmit live audio and, if enabled, live video between the paired devices.
The person responsible for this app is:
Markus Winkler
Email: oldpop@gmx.at
The controller is established in Austria.
No data protection officer has been appointed, as this is not legally required for the current app setup. For all privacy-related requests, you can contact the controller using the email address above.
Baby Calling is designed so that its main processing takes place locally on your devices.
The app does not require a user account. The developer does not operate a cloud service to which microphone recordings, camera images, live audio or video streams, phone numbers, contact lists, pairing secrets, sound detection results, or usage data are transmitted.
As of the current version, the app does not contain advertising, analytics, tracking, or crash reporting SDKs that transmit usage data to the developer.
However, in live mode and during pairing, data may be transmitted between your own paired devices on the local network. This is necessary for the app to function.
The app may also use Google Play / Play Store components for in-app update checks and in-app review prompts. These functions may communicate with Google Play as part of the Android / Google Play system. Baby Calling does not use these functions to send microphone recordings, camera images, live audio or video streams, pairing secrets, phone numbers, contact lists, or sound detection results to Google Play.
To determine whether country-specific privacy notices or confirmations are required, the app may locally check device region indicators such as the device locale/region or time zone. These indicators are processed only on the device, are not sent to the developer, and are not used for tracking, analytics, advertising, or profiling.
When sound detection is active, Baby Calling uses the microphone of the baby device. The audio data is analyzed locally to classify sounds and react according to the selected sound categories and settings.
Depending on the selected mode, the app may:
evaluate microphone levels or sounds locally;
use local AI/audio processing to classify sounds;
trigger an alert when an event is detected;
transmit live audio from the baby device to the paired parent device on the local network in live mode.
Audio classification is performed locally on the device using a bundled audio classification model. Baby Calling does not permanently store audio recordings and does not transmit audio recordings to the developer.
The camera is used for two purposes:
scanning the parent device QR code during local pairing;
live video, if you enable this feature.
During QR scanning, the camera preview is used to read the pairing data from the QR code. QR code recognition is performed locally on the device using a bundled QR code decoding library. The camera preview and QR recognition results are not permanently stored and are not sent to the developer or to a backend server.
If live video is enabled, the parent device may request a live video session from the baby device. The video stream is transmitted between the paired devices. Baby Calling does not permanently store video recordings and does not transmit video data to the developer.
In call alert mode, you can select a phone number using the Android system contact picker. Baby Calling receives only the selected contact or selected phone number, not your entire contact list.
The selected phone number and, if available, the contact name are stored locally on the device so that Baby Calling can start a phone call to this number when an alert is triggered.
When a call alert is triggered, a normal phone call is started through your device and your mobile or telephone provider. Your provider may process regular call connection data. Baby Calling has no control over this processing.
For local pairing between the baby device and the parent device, Baby Calling processes technical connection data, such as:
device name or device role information;
local IP address or host information;
port information;
pairing key;
session or connection tokens;
technical status information about the local connection.
This data is used so that the baby device and parent device can find each other, authenticate each other, and communicate within the local network. The connection is designed for the local setup between the paired devices. No relay server or cloud server operated by the developer is used.
Baby Calling stores certain settings locally on the device, for example:
selected language;
selected mode;
sensitivity;
sound detection settings and selected sound categories;
selected phone number and contact name;
pairing data;
information about the last setup or active session.
This data is stored locally in the app storage. Security-relevant session and pairing data may be stored in encrypted local app settings.
Android cloud backup for app data is disabled by the app, and sensitive pairing/session preferences are excluded from Android backup and device-transfer rules where applicable.
You can delete locally stored app data by clearing the app data in the Android system settings or by uninstalling the app.
Baby Calling may request the following Android permissions:
Microphone: required for sound detection, local sound classification, and live audio.
Audio settings: used to control audio output and audio behaviour for live audio or alert functions.
Camera: required for QR code scanning and optional live video.
Phone call: required if Baby Calling should automatically call the selected phone number in call alert mode.
Notifications: required so that the app can display status and alert notifications.
Internet / network access: required to open local network connections between the baby device and the parent device.
Network state / Wi-Fi related access: used to detect and maintain network connectivity and to keep the local connection more reliable during monitoring.
Wake lock / foreground service: required so that monitoring, alerts, and local audio/video connections can continue more reliably, even when the screen is locked.
Android permissions are requested before the app accesses protected device functions such as microphone, camera, notifications, or phone calls.
You can revoke permissions at any time in the Android system settings. Some app functions may then no longer work or may only work with limitations.
Baby Calling processes data for the following purposes:
app setup;
pairing of baby device and parent device;
sound detection and local sound classification;
display of status information;
triggering alerts;
starting a phone call alert;
transmitting live audio on the local network;
optionally transmitting live video on the local network;
storing your local app settings;
technical stability and security of the local connection;
Google Play in-app update checks and in-app review prompts.
Where the General Data Protection Regulation applies, processing is carried out, depending on the function, in particular on the following legal bases:
Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, where processing is necessary to provide the app function requested by you, such as monitoring, alerting, local pairing, live audio, or live video between paired devices;
Article 6(1)(a) GDPR, where you have given consent, for example by actively enabling optional functions where consent is required;
Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, where processing is necessary for technical security, stability, and prevention of misuse, unless your interests or fundamental rights and freedoms override those interests.
You can revoke Android permissions at any time in the system settings. Some app functions may then no longer work or may only work with limitations. Where processing is based on consent, the withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
You are not legally required to provide personal data to Baby Calling. However, some data and Android permissions are technically necessary to use the app functions you choose. For example, microphone access is necessary for sound detection and live audio, camera access is necessary for QR code scanning and optional live video, and phone call access is necessary for automatic call alerts. If you do not provide the required permission or data, the respective function may not be available or may only work with limitations.
Where processing is based on legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, the legitimate interests are the secure, stable and reliable operation of the app, prevention of misuse, local connection security, and troubleshooting of technical issues.
Baby Calling does not transmit personal data to the developer.
Data may be processed or transmitted outside a single device in the following cases:
between the baby device and the paired parent device on the local network;
to your telephone provider when a phone call is started in call alert mode;
to operating system or device components where Android permissions and system functions are used;
to Google Play / Play Store components when in-app update checks or in-app review prompts are used.
The Google Play update and review functions are not used by Baby Calling to transmit baby audio, live video, pairing secrets, phone numbers, contact lists, or sound detection results to Google Play.
If you submit an in-app review, Google Play processes the rating and any free-text review you enter. Such reviews may be shown publicly on Google Play or, for test tracks where applicable, shared privately with the developer through Google Play.
Google Play and Android may also provide the developer with aggregated or anonymised app quality information through Android vitals or Play Console, such as information about crashes, ANRs, performance, battery use, device types, Android versions, or permission issues, depending on the user’s device settings and Google Play settings. Baby Calling does not include its own crash reporting SDK.
Baby Calling does not sell data and does not share data for advertising or tracking purposes.
Baby Calling uses third-party and open-source components for Android user interface, camera access, local QR code decoding, encrypted local storage, local audio classification, local audio/video transmission, bundled typography, and Google Play update/review functionality.
The app does not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, crash reporting SDKs, or developer-operated backend SDKs.
Local QR code decoding is performed on the device. Local audio classification is performed on the device using a bundled audio classification model. Bundled fonts are included in the app package and are not requested through Google Play / Play Store components at runtime by Baby Calling.
Google Play / Play Store components may be used for in-app update checks and in-app review prompts. Where operating system components, device manufacturer components, Google Play components, or other third-party components process data independently of Baby Calling, their respective privacy policies apply.
Open-source and third-party license information is available inside the app under the third-party licenses section.
This Privacy Policy is hosted on Google Sites. When you open this website, Google may process data independently according to Google’s own privacy policy.
Audio and video data that is not permanently required is processed only during the respective function and is not permanently stored by Baby Calling.
Local settings, phone numbers, contact names, and pairing data remain stored until you change them, reset pairing, clear the app data through the Android system settings, or uninstall the app.
If you voluntarily contact the developer by email, the information you provide will be used to handle your request and stored as long as necessary for processing your request or as required by legal retention obligations.
Baby Calling uses local app storage and, where provided, encrypted local settings. Local pairing uses pairing data so that only paired devices should be able to communicate with each other.
Android cloud backup for app data is disabled by the app, and sensitive pairing/session data is excluded from Android backup and device-transfer rules where applicable.
However, no app can guarantee completely error-free or permanently secure transmission. Use Baby Calling only on trusted networks and protect your devices with appropriate device locks and current security updates.
Baby Calling is not a medical device, not a professional monitoring system, and not a substitute for personal supervision. The app cannot guarantee alerts, live audio, or live video at all times. Network problems, battery saving mechanisms, missing permissions, muted devices, empty batteries, or technical errors may impair its function.
Baby Calling is intended for use by adults, especially parents or caregivers. The app is not intended to be used directly by children. Children should not operate the app or use it as end users.
When using the app, sounds, voices, or images of a child may be processed locally on your devices or transmitted on the local network between your paired devices, depending on the feature you use. This data is not transmitted to the developer and is not permanently stored by Baby Calling.
Baby Calling does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Baby Calling does not use children’s data for advertising, analytics, tracking, targeted advertising, behavioural advertising, profiling, or monetisation.
Where the General Data Protection Regulation applies, you have in particular the following rights against the controller:
right of access to the personal data processed;
right to rectification of inaccurate data;
right to erasure;
right to restriction of processing;
right to data portability;
right to object to certain processing;
right to withdraw consent with effect for the future.
Since Baby Calling does not transmit personal data to the developer as of the current version and the main data is stored locally on your device, you can delete many types of data yourself by clearing the app data in the Android system settings or by uninstalling the app.
For privacy-related requests, you can contact the controller at:

If you are located in India, this section provides additional information under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, where applicable.
Baby Calling is intended for use by adults, especially parents, lawful guardians or adult caregivers acting with permission from a parent or lawful guardian. The app is not intended to be used directly by children. In India, a child means an individual who has not completed eighteen years of age.
When you enable sound detection, live audio or live video, sounds, voices, images, live audio or live video of a child may be processed locally on your own devices or transmitted between your paired devices on the local network. By using these functions for a child, you confirm that you are the child’s parent or lawful guardian, or that you are an adult caregiver authorised by the child’s parent or lawful guardian, and that you consent to this local processing for the purpose of monitoring, alerting and local live transmission selected by you.
Baby Calling does not create child accounts and is not designed for children to operate as end users. Baby Calling does not knowingly collect personal data directly from children for transmission to the developer. Baby Calling does not track children across apps, websites or services, does not create behavioural profiles, and does not use children’s data for advertising, targeted advertising, behavioural advertising, analytics for advertising purposes, profiling or monetisation. The local sound detection, alerting, live audio and live video functions are used only for the purposes selected by the adult user.
In the current no-account and local-only app setup, Baby Calling does not request government identification documents, age-verification documents, DigiLocker data or similar identity documents from you or from the child. The app is designed to avoid collecting such additional identity data.
The categories of personal data processed by the app and the purposes of processing are described in Sections 3 and 5 of this Privacy Policy. You may withdraw consent or stop processing by stopping monitoring, disabling optional functions, revoking Android permissions, clearing the app data in Android system settings or uninstalling the app. Some functions may then no longer work.
For privacy-related requests, questions or grievances from users in India, you may contact: oldpop@gmx.at
