Elom Initiative

Official Website

Summary

A refugee community center needed to update their WordPress website to appeal more towards volunteers and contributors. Existing website does not seem to attract the right target visitors and wasn’t always available due to some access issue.

The Problem

The founders are looking to take this opportunity to redesign their official website to their preferred objectives with a message of empowering through education in the community.

Design Process

They would like to have an informative site to share their vision and mission, their contribution towards the UN Sustainability Development Goals, articles on their activities, thoughts and experiences, as well as attract volunteers and contributors to join in on their journey.

Design Decision

The hero section for all of the homepage is redesigned to look like a tiers of membership cards. Presenting the colors Gold, Red and Teal.

Gold is often associated with luxury, wealth, and sophistication. It can also symbolize prosperity, good fortune, and prestige.Red represents bold, attention-getting color that is often associated with passion, energy, and intensity. It can also symbolize love, desire, and warmth.

Teal gives a feel of calmness, serenity, and stability. It can also symbolize trust, loyalty, and integrity.

A section on the main page needs to show the alignment towards the SDG goals outlined by the UNCHR. The 3 animated elements are taken directly from their official page, while a subsection with a button to directly link to the official UNCHR SDG webpage for all of the 17 goals.

The section on their vision and mission is positioned closely with a simple form calling for volunteers, paired with some key metrics since inception of the community center.

At the community center, the founders not only love to share their personal experiences but also capture firsthand the challenges and struggles faced by their neighbors in need. Being a part of the same community, and by coming together to support those in need, they are confident that they can make a real and lasting difference.

For this the design now includes an articles section, and a photo gallery that can be updated by the founders themselves.

A testimonial section that serves as social proof can help to build trust and credibility with potential volunteers and contributors, along with introduction of the founders followed by the contact form.

Conclusion

These are the main elements that are going to be included in the redesign of their website. Though there is the important element of being able to donate to the cause, at this point is being researched from the aspect of trustworthiness, jurisdiction and legality.

The project is currently being put on hold as the community is ramping up their academy program and more content from that portion will also be included in the near future.
