I am Ahmmed Zulfiqar Rahaman, currently pursuing my PhD in Civil Engineering from University of Houston, with primary focuses of research on earth system modeling, reservoir management in a watershed at scales and climate change. I am working as a Research Assistant at Civil and Environmental Engineering Department of UH in Dr. Li's Lab 'Wonders of Water'.
Prerviously, I worked as an Associate Specialist of Climate Change and Disaster Management Division, Center for Environmental and Geographic Information Services (CEGIS). There I gathered over 11 years of experience in the field of water resources engineering, climate change & disaster risk management. I was dedicatedly involved in more than 60 cross-sectoral studies in home and abroad to provide my intellectual inputs on hydrological & hydrodynamic modeling, climate change downscaling and impact assessment, climate and disaster risk assessment, feasibility studies, urban storm water management and low impact development, climate resilient infrastructures, GIS and RS analysis, climate change adaptation & mitigation planning. I have special skills on applying programming languages (R and Python) and using different mathematical modeling tools i.e. SOBEK, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, CCHE2D, Delft3D, SWAT, SWAT-Cup, SWMM, SDSM, DSSAT, iMOD, ArcGIS, ILWIS etc. I also appeared as resources person, speaker or panelist in multiple national and international conference and training events.
I have led and co-led multiple national and international studies and worked with different government stakeholders, development partners like UNDP, FAO, GIZ, multi-lateral banks like ADB & World Bank, private sector companies and multi-national engineering consultants.
I pursued my M.Sc and B.Sc degree in Water Resources Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). I have received several trainings and certifications on Natural Resources Management, Mathematical Modeling, Leadership and Project Management. You can download my profile summary from here.
Besides, I am one of the Co-Founders and Member of Advisory Panel of the online forum for water resources, namely, 'WRE Forum'.
