Recommended TOEFL Study Resources
The Three Official Books
This post will mostly focus on free stuff, but I strongly recommend that you get some or all of the textbooks officially released by ETS. You can buy them direct from ETS or from any other bookstore. They are:
The Official Guide to the TOEFL
The Official iBT Tests (Volumes 1 & 2)
The latest editions have been updated for changes to the test
that began in 2019.
Other Official Prep (Free)
The ETS free practice test
. This test is updated to match the new format, and has sample answers for the writing and speaking sections. You should take this test.
ETS practice sets
. ETS has published more sample questions in PDF format. Note that no audio is provided, so these are best for reading practice, and for becoming familiar with the test format.
The TOEFL Insider's Guide
. This is a free course from ETS, and will also help you become familiar with the test format and question types. Maybe the best source of free reading and listening instruction.
Writing Stuff
Guide to the Independent Essay
. Describes the question types, and provides a template to use.
Guide to the Integrated Essay
. Same as above.
Speaking Stuff
