Windows 12 coming in the next year or so: shoving Microsoft Edge and Copilot up your throat?
In 2025, also the year of Windows 10's End of Support date, Microsoft is expected to release Windows 12, and we're expecting big things, especially after Microsoft let us down with Windows 11, due to the Windows 10 taskbar overlay and harsh system requirements. Microsoft Edge is already bad enough as it is, with annoying nags and pop-ups, and in the Search menu, it uses Bing and any link you click re-directs you there, no matter what your default browser is. In a video leak, there was a floating taskbar, and the time, date and status were moved to the top right, for a change never done since the taskbar's first debut in early builds of Chicago (Windows 95 betas). We see official desktop widgets for the first time in 15 years, but now they look much better with the transparency effects and Mica background. Microsoft are also going hard on Copilot, with new Copilot+ PCs coming soon. We may also see the removal of the Control Panel, but it has been neglected for years since the release of Windows 8 with its Settings app. However, animated wallpapers might be available on the desktop or lock screen, but the biggest new feature by far is the ability to install Android apps via APK.Â
