Advice on Avianca Airlines' Baggage Policy
Large South American airline Avianca provides flights throughout the region as well as connections between countries. Other airlines that now operate as subsidiaries of Avianca include TACA and Avianca El Salvador.
The establishment of new price classes by Avianca in recent years has caused some confusion over the baggage restrictions. Depending on your origin and destination, the L, XL, and XXL prices provide 1 or 2 gratis checked bags, but the XS, S, and M flights frequently do not. The XS cost only includes a little personal item, so if you want to bring a standard-sized carry-on bag, you must pay an extra fee.
Cabin baggage size and weight limitations with Avianca in 2023
Avianca customers are only allowed to bring one piece of carry-on luggage and one personal item, such as a jacket, laptop bag, pocketbook, etc. All personal belongings must stay at your seat. Please be aware that you may only bring one personal item on an XS fare; carry-on luggage must be bought separately. Conclusion
The introduction of new ticket tiers by Avianca in recent years has led to several misunderstandings regarding the baggage limitations. The L, XL, and XXL rates include 1 or 2 free checked bags depending on your origin and destination, but the XS, S, and M flights usually do not. If you want to bring a carry-on bag that is the usual size, you must pay an additional fee because the XS cost only includes a small personal item.
