If you want a rugged, metal-built transmitter designed specifically for long-haul travel with industry-leading battery endurance and premium audio codecs, choose Avantree SoundJet R1-25Hr; if you need a versatile 2-in-1 transceiver with RCA inputs, low-latency gaming modes, and hands-free calling capability at a compact size, choose FMIIFMS 5.4.
• Avantree SoundJet R1-25Hr: Its standout strength is the massive 25-hour battery life paired with a premium metal enclosure and aptX Adaptive support, making it ideal for marathon flights or gym sessions where charging isn't an option. The trade-off is that it functions strictly as a transmitter for analog outputs and lacks microphone capabilities or RCA connectivity. This pick is for travelers and audiophiles who prioritize uninterrupted listening and audio fidelity over call features.
• FMIIFMS 5.4: This unit shines as a flexible 2-in-1 adapter supporting both 3.5mm and RCA inputs, while adding Bluetooth 5.4 stability and a built-in microphone for calls. However, its plastic build and lack of specific codec transparency compared to the Avantree suggest it is better suited for general home or car use rather than high-fidelity flight entertainment. This pick is for users who need a single device to handle TVs, cars, and stereo systems with occasional call needs.
The Avantree SoundJet R1-25Hr is engineered with a singular focus: delivering wireless audio from analog sources without the anxiety of a dead battery. When you look at the specifications, the most defining feature is the 25-hour playtime on a single charge. In a real-world scenario, this means you can pack this tiny, 4-gram device into your carry-on, connect it to an airline seat screen, and watch three full movies back-to-back without ever needing to plug in a USB-C cable. The inclusion of pass-through charging is a critical design choice; it allows you to keep the device powered indefinitely during ultra-long hauls, ensuring your entertainment never cuts out mid-scene.
For those seeking the best rechargeable over ear headphones for gym use or travel, the build quality here is distinct. Unlike many competitors that rely on cheap plastics, this unit features a metal enclosure. This isn't just about aesthetics; it speaks to durability and heat dissipation, which are essential when pushing a Qualcomm chipset running aptX Adaptive and aptX HD codecs. These advanced audio standards ensure that the wireless signal maintains high resolution, minimizing compression artifacts that often plague standard Bluetooth connections. If you own high-end noise-canceling headphones like Bose QC35 or Sony models, this adapter respects their potential by utilizing the same premium silicon found in top-tier audio gear.
However, this product is not for everyone. You must understand exactly what it does before buying. It is a transmitter only, meaning it takes audio from a 3.5mm jack and sends it wirelessly to your headphones. It cannot receive audio from a phone to send to speakers, nor does it have a built-in microphone for answering calls. If your primary goal is to listen to music from a TV with no headphone jack using RCA cables, or if you need to take conference calls while commuting, this device will not work for you. It is a specialized tool for people who already have good Bluetooth headphones and need to bridge them to older analog equipment like airplane screens or gym machines.

The FMIIFMS 5.4 positions itself as a universal solution for anyone struggling with the transition from wired to wireless in multiple environments. Its most significant advantage lies in its input flexibility. While many adapters stick to a single 3.5mm port, this unit supports both 3.5mm AUX and RCA inputs. This makes it immediately useful for home theater setups, vintage stereos, and modern cars that still utilize RCA jacks alongside auxiliary ports. The inclusion of Bluetooth 5.4 technology also suggests a more robust connection stability and lower power consumption compared to older generations, which is crucial when switching between different devices throughout the day.
Another major selling point for this model is the integrated microphone and support for hands-free calls. If you frequently use your headphones for business calls or need to answer questions while driving, the ability to route voice audio through the adapter is a functional necessity. The device also features low-latency mode, which is a game-changer for watching videos on tablets or playing games on mobile devices where audio sync is critical. Without this feature, the lag between the video and the sound can be distracting and ruin the immersion. The digital push-button controls are straightforward, offering a simple interface for pairing and volume management without the complexity of touch gestures that might accidentally trigger on a moving train.
That said, the trade-offs become apparent when looking at the construction and audio specifics. The enclosure is made of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS), a durable but lightweight plastic that feels less premium than the metal chassis of the Avantree. It measures 1.23 inches by 0.55 inches by 2.48 inches, making it slightly larger and bulkier than the featherweight Avantree unit. While the 12-month warranty provides peace of mind, the device lacks the explicit mention of high-resolution codecs like aptX HD. This doesn't mean it sounds bad, but it implies it relies on standard Bluetooth transmission paths which may not preserve the highest fidelity for critical listening. It is best suited for the average user who wants a "set it and forget it" device for the living room, office, or car, rather than the dedicated traveler demanding maximum battery life and audiophile-grade audio processing.
• Best for battery life → Avantree SoundJet R1-25Hr. With a guaranteed 25-hour runtime and pass-through charging, it outlasts almost any competitor in its class, making it perfect for international flights.
• Best for input versatility → FMIIFMS 5.4. If you need to connect to a home stereo system via RCA or a car stereo with mixed inputs, this is the only option that handles both 3.5mm and RCA simultaneously.
• Best for audio fidelity → Avantree SoundJet R1-25Hr. The dedicated Qualcomm chipset with aptX Adaptive and aptX HD support ensures higher quality audio transmission for compatible headphones.
• Best for calls and conferencing → FMIIFMS 5.4. Only this unit includes a built-in microphone and explicitly supports hands-free calling functionality.
• Best for durability and build → Avantree SoundJet R1-25Hr. The metal enclosure offers superior protection against drops and heat compared to the ABS plastic of the FMIIFMS.
• Best for low-latency video → FMIIFMS 5.4. Explicitly designed with a low-latency mode, it reduces audio delay for gaming and video syncing better than the standard transmit-only design of the other.
• Best for weight and portability → Avantree SoundJet R1-25Hr. Weighing only 4 grams, it is nearly undetectable in a pocket, whereas the FMIIFMS is slightly larger due to its additional input options.
• Best value for multi-room use → FMIIFMS 5.4. Its ability to serve as both a transmitter and receiver (implied by the 2-in-1 title and RCA/AUX mix) makes it a more flexible investment for a household with various audio setups.
In my opinion, I would buy the Avantree SoundJet R1-25Hr for my personal collection. The combination of the metal build, the 25-hour battery, and the aptX Adaptive support creates a product that feels significantly more robust and capable for serious use cases. While the FMIIFMS 5.4 offers useful features like RCA inputs and a microphone, the Avantree's focus on pure, high-quality, long-duration audio transmission aligns better with what a dedicated user actually needs. If you are looking for the best headphones for gym sessions or reliable entertainment on long flights, the Avantree's reliability and battery endurance make it the clear winner. It solves the one problem that matters most: keeping your music playing without interruption.
For gym use, you should verify the water resistance of your headphones themselves, as the adapter is primarily designed for dry indoor environments like airplanes and gyms.
Yes, because the FMIIFMS 5.4 supports 3.5mm AUX inputs, you can connect it to your phone's headphone jack (or dongle) and transmit the audio to a car stereo that accepts a 3.5mm or RCA input, provided the car has the corresponding receiver capability.
No, the Avantree SoundJet R1-25Hr is designed strictly as a transmitter for analog audio outputs to Bluetooth headphones. It does not have a microphone or call-handling capabilities, so it cannot be used to take phone calls.
The Avantree SoundJet R1-25Hr is superior for airplane movies due to its 25-hour battery life and aptX Adaptive codec support, which ensures high-quality audio for the duration of long-haul flights without needing a charger.
