If you want a dedicated Bluetooth adapter that transforms any wired device into a wireless hub with reliable connectivity for flights and gym equipment, choose Avantree Relay; if you need a self-contained pair of earbuds with deeper noise cancellation and superior water resistance for intense daily commutes, choose TOZO NC3.
• Avantree Relay: Its greatest strength is its versatility as a universal transmitter that works with almost any AUX output, making it the ideal solution for travelers who need to connect old airline entertainment systems or gym machines to modern headphones. The trade-off is that it requires a separate case and battery management for both the dongle and the earbuds, which adds bulk to your pocket. This pick is for the commuter who values compatibility over simplicity.
• TOZO NC3: The standout feature here is the powerful 45dB hybrid active noise cancellation combined with an IPX8 waterproof rating, allowing for uninterrupted listening in heavy rain or during sweaty workouts. The limitation is that it functions strictly as a standalone Bluetooth earbud set without the ability to act as a transmitter for non-Bluetooth devices. This pick is for the rider who wants a single, rugged unit ready for any weather condition.
The Avantree Relay is not just a pair of earbuds; it is a bridge between legacy audio sources and modern wireless technology. If your commute involves frequent air travel or visits to gyms with outdated equipment, this product solves a specific pain point that standard earbuds cannot. The kit includes a premium Bluetooth 5.3 adapter that connects to any device with a 3.5mm AUX port. This means you can plug it into the seatback screen on a plane or the headphone jack on a treadmill and instantly stream high-quality audio to your ears.
For the traveler, the inclusion of dual 3.5mm adapters is a game-changer. Airlines often use different connector standards, and having both types included ensures you are never left without music or calls. The device supports aptX-Adaptive codec technology, which delivers high-fidelity audio with low latency. This is crucial when watching movies on a flight or following instructions on a workout machine where sound must stay perfectly synced with the video or activity. The system also features Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation that blocks up to 24dB of environmental noise, providing a decent buffer against engine hum or machinery.
However, this setup is best suited for users who prioritize function over form. You are managing two distinct components: the transmitter dongle and the Clan N1 earbuds. While the case displays battery levels clearly, you have to ensure both parts are charged before you head out. If you prefer a minimalist approach where you simply take one small object out of your pocket and wear it, the Relay might feel like too much gear. It is designed for the person who needs their audio rig to work with everything they own, regardless of how old the device is.

The TOZO NC3 is built for the commuter who wants a robust, all-in-one solution that demands nothing more than taking them out of the case. These earbuds utilize advanced OrigX technology to deliver deep bass down to 18Hz while keeping mids and trebles crisp. More importantly, they offer a significantly higher noise reduction depth of up to 45dB compared to many competitors. This level of silence is essential for navigating busy subways, crowded city streets, or windy train platforms where external chaos usually drowns out music.
Durability is another area where the NC3 shines. With an IPX8 rating, these earbuds are engineered to handle complete immersion in water under laboratory conditions. While I do not suggest testing this by dunking them in a pool, the rating guarantees they will survive heavy rainstorms, accidental splashes, or the intense sweat of a pre-work run. The design relies on six microphones working in tandem with Environmental Noise Reduction (ENC) to ensure your voice comes through clearly during calls, even when the background noise is deafening. The ergonomic fit ensures they stay snug in your ears during extended wear, making them a strong candidate for long-distance commuters.
This product is for the user who wants to leave the dongle at home. There is no need to manage a separate transmitter or worry about compatibility with older ports. You simply pair them with your phone and go. The trade-off is that you are locked into the Bluetooth ecosystem. If you find yourself on a plane with only analog audio jacks or a gym with no Bluetooth capability, the NC3 alone cannot solve that problem. But for anyone whose primary mode of transport is a subway, bus, or car, the combination of deep noise cancellation and total water resistance makes this the most practical choice.
• Best for Universal Compatibility → Avantree Relay: If you frequently use non-Bluetooth devices like older TVs, planes, or gym consoles, the Relay's ability to transmit audio via AUX is unmatched.
• Best for Noise Isolation → TOZO NC3: With 45dB of active noise cancellation, the NC3 provides a quieter listening environment than the 24dB offered by the Relay.
• Best for Weather Resistance → TOZO NC3: The IPX8 rating means the NC3 can handle heavy rain and sweat far better than the standard protection found on the Relay.
• Best for Audio Fidelity on Legacy Gear → Avantree Relay: The aptX-Adaptive support ensures low-latency, high-quality streaming specifically when bridging analog sources to digital ears.
• Best for Call Clarity in Wind → TOZO NC3: The six-microphone array with ENC technology is explicitly designed to isolate your voice from heavy ambient noise during calls.
• Best for Minimalist Commuters → TOZO NC3: Taking one small case out of your bag is easier than managing a separate transmitter dongle and earbuds.
• Best for Air Travel Specifics → Avantree Relay: The dual 3.5mm adapters included in the box make it the only true "plug-and-play" solution for diverse airline seat configurations.
• Best for Heavy Sweat Workouts → TOZO NC3: The rugged build and waterproof rating make it the safer bet for high-intensity exercise during your commute.
After analyzing the specifications and real-world use cases, I would buy the TOZO NC3 for my personal commuting needs. The sheer power of 45dB noise cancellation combined with the peace of mind from an IPX8 waterproof rating addresses the two biggest headaches of urban travel: constant noise and unpredictable weather. While the Avantree Relay is an impressive piece of engineering for its versatility, I rarely find myself needing to plug into an airplane's analog jack or a treadmill every day. For the vast majority of commuters, a single, rugged, high-performance pair of earbuds offers a simpler and more effective experience.
Both products excel in different areas. The TOZO NC3 is likely the best choice for most commuters due to its superior 45dB noise cancellation and water resistance, while the Avantree Relay is better if you need to connect to non-Bluetooth devices like airplanes or gym equipment.
These products are true wireless designs, not neckbands. The TOZO NC3 offers a more streamlined, lightweight experience with deep bass and high water resistance, whereas the Avantree Relay is a specialized adapter kit that prioritizes connectivity versatility over traditional earbud form factors.
The TOZO NC3 features Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation capable of reducing noise by up to 45dB, which is significantly deeper than the 24dB reduction provided by the Avantree Relay's Hybrid ANC.
Yes, the Avantree Relay is designed for wide compatibility and can connect to any Bluetooth headphones or earbuds, including the AirPods Pro 2, as long as they support the necessary Bluetooth protocols.
