If you want a specialized travel adapter to stream high-fidelity audio from an airplane's 3.5mm jack with zero lag, choose Avantree Relay & Voyager; if you need all-day open-ear headphones that keep you aware of your surroundings while delivering studio-quality sound, choose Weofly Mixer Open Ear. This is not a close call for medical professionals like nurses who often work in chaotic environments where situational awareness is just as critical as the music they listen to during their shifts.
• Avantree Relay & Voyager: Best-in-class aptX Adaptive codec support and a dedicated OLED screen for monitoring battery levels make it the ultimate tool for air travel, but it is strictly an accessory, not standalone headphones.
• Weofly Mixer Open Ear: Offers a massive 40-hour battery life and a comfortable, pressure-free open-ear design ideal for long shifts, though it lacks the specific airplane jack compatibility of the Relay.
• The Verdict: Choose the Avantree for the frequent flyer or traveler needing a bridge between legacy systems and modern audio, and choose the Weofly for anyone seeking a primary pair of headphones for daily wear, commuting, or professional use.
The Avantree Relay & Voyager is a niche device built for a very specific problem: how do you get crisp, lossless audio out of older airplane entertainment systems using your modern Bluetooth headphones? If you are a nurse who travels frequently for conferences or has a spouse who flies often, this little box changes the game. It plugs directly into the 3.5mm AUX jack found on almost every aircraft seat, acting as a bridge that converts the analog signal into a robust digital stream. The core of its performance lies in the premium Qualcomm chipset, which powers Bluetooth 5.3 stability. This isn't just about connecting; it is about maintaining a connection that doesn't drop when the cabin pressure changes or the plane moves through turbulence.
What makes this adapter stand out is its commitment to audio fidelity through aptX Adaptive and HD codecs. Unlike standard Bluetooth adapters that compress audio heavily to save bandwidth, this unit transmits high-quality data with low latency. For a user listening to podcasts or music during a long-haul flight, this means the difference between muffled speech and crystal-clear dialogue. The inclusion of an OLED screen is a small but significant detail. Instead of guessing how much battery is left by staring at a tiny LED light, you can see the exact percentage. You can also adjust volume, manage pairing history, and monitor connections right on the device itself.
However, you must understand what this product is not. It is not a pair of headphones. It does not have speakers or earbuds attached. It is purely an output device. If you buy this expecting a full listening experience without owning compatible Bluetooth headphones (like AirPods, Bose, or other brands), you will be disappointed. It works with those devices but does not replace them. Furthermore, it is explicitly designed for airplane seats and gym equipment with AUX inputs; it is not compatible with phones, car stereos, or hearing aids. If your primary use case involves streaming from your smartphone via Bluetooth natively, this device adds unnecessary complexity to your routine. It is a travel essential for a specific scenario, not a daily driver for everyone.

The Weofly Mixer Open Ear is designed for people who need to hear the world around them while still enjoying their audio. For nurses working on busy hospital floors, this open-ear design is a game-changer. Traditional over-ear or in-ear headphones create a seal that isolates you completely, which can be dangerous if you need to hear a patient calling for help or a machine alarm. The Weofly sits outside the ear canal, allowing ambient noise to pass through naturally while you listen to your favorite tracks or audiobooks. The construction uses ultra-soft, skin-friendly liquid silicone that wraps around the outer ear, distributing weight evenly so there is no pressure inside the ear canal. This ensures you can wear them for an entire 12-hour shift without the fatigue that comes with traditional designs.
Audio quality here is surprisingly robust for an open design. The unit utilizes a professional-grade Qualcomm QCC3095 audio chip supporting Snapdragon Sound and aptX HD technology. This combination allows for lossless CD-quality sound with excellent separation between vocals and instruments. Even though the ears are open, acoustic steering technology minimizes sound leakage, meaning people sitting next to you won't hear your playlist clearly. The 40mm dynamic drivers deliver a rich, immersive experience that rivals many closed-back options. For a nurse on a break, this means you can enjoy high-fidelity music without blocking out the hum of the hallway or the conversation of a colleague.
Battery life is another massive selling point for this category. With 40 hours of playtime, you can go weeks between charges, assuming a typical usage pattern. This is crucial for healthcare workers who might forget to charge their gear on a weekend and need it ready Monday morning. The flat-fold design and included carrying case make it easy to toss into a bag without taking up space. While the device supports multi-point connectivity and LE Audio/Auracast for seamless switching, its true strength lies in the comfort and safety of the open-ear form factor. It is perfect for anyone who needs to stay alert in their environment while listening to content. However, it is important to note that in extremely loud environments, like a busy subway or a noisy emergency room, you may need to turn the volume higher to overcome background noise, as the open design does not physically block sound like noise-canceling cups.
• Best for Air Travel Connectivity → Avantree Relay & Voyager. Only this adapter can take the analog output from an airplane seat and convert it to high-quality Bluetooth for your existing headphones.
• Best for All-Day Comfort → Weofly Mixer Open Ear. The open-ear design prevents ear fatigue and allows for breathability during long shifts or commutes.
• Best Battery Life → Weofly Mixer Open Ear. A 40-hour playtime ensures you rarely worry about charging, whereas the Relay requires frequent recharging due to its small battery.
• Best for Situational Awareness → Weofly Mixer Open Ear. Nurses and outdoor workers benefit from hearing alarms and voices while listening to audio.
• Best for Low Latency Gaming/Video → Avantree Relay & Voyager. The aptX Low Latency codec ensures audio stays perfectly synced with video when used with compatible devices.
• Best Call Quality in Noise → Weofly Mixer Open Ear. Features CVC and ENC dual noise reduction specifically designed to isolate voice during calls in cafés or streets.
• Best for Compact Travel → Avantree Relay & Voyager. Its pocket-sized, lightweight design fits easily into any carry-on without adding bulk.
• Best for Premium Audio Fidelity → Tie. Both utilize Qualcomm chips and aptX variants, but the Weofly offers the full headphone experience while the Relay optimizes the source connection.
In my opinion, if you are a nurse looking for the best bluetooth head phones for nurses to wear during your shifts, the Weofly Mixer Open Ear is the clear winner. The ability to maintain situational awareness while listening to music or podcasts is a non-negotiable safety feature in a hospital setting, and the 40-hour battery life ensures you never run out of power mid-shift. The open-ear design provides a level of comfort that sealed headphones simply cannot match over long periods. I would choose the Weofly because it solves the real-world problem of needing to hear your environment while staying entertained. The Avantree Relay & Voyager is an incredible piece of tech for travelers, but it is a niche accessory that requires you to already own a pair of headphones. Unless you are specifically flying and want to upgrade your in-flight entertainment experience, the Weofly is the more versatile and essential purchase for your daily life.
