Contemplate & Enjoy God
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is educational, but it is primarily to enhance a child’s relationship/encounters with God.
CGS has roots in the Montessori method, with everything leading to a deeper understanding, when the child is ready.
CGS includes a beautiful space called the “atrium” in which child-sized materials help children and the catechists to hear, ponder and celebrate the most important mysteries and essentials of the Christian faith, as revealed in Scripture and liturgy.
Hands-On
In the atrium, the child can contemplate a biblical passage or a prayer from the liturgy by working with the related material, such as moving wooden figurines like sheep in the Good Shepherd’s fold, placing the figurines of the apostles around the Last Supper, or preparing a small altar with the objects used in the Mass.
Older children who can read, often copy parables from the bible, put the prayers of the Rite of Baptism in order, or work with a very long strip that shows the history of the Kingdom of God.
