investigating trends in covid-19 data to prevent widespread infection in future
This project is a data analysis of Covid-19 deaths and vaccination data from 03/01/2020 to 04/05/2023 using SQL to investigate interesting trends to prevent mass spread of infections in future.
The novel Coronavirus pandemic when it first began created uncertainty and confusion not just among the population but also within societal institutions and government bodies.
The first image (above) illustrates the dashboard created to visualize the global cases vs death percentage, deaths by continent, percentage of population infected in a small subset of countries (India, China, US, UK, Hungary and Poland) and a global map of the percentage of population in each country that have been infected with Covid till date.
Europe by far has had the most Covid related deaths while the United Kingdom leads in average percentage of population infected among the countries chosen. Overall countries like France, Austria and Slovenia have had the highest percentage of the population infected with Covid-19.
The image below represents the dashboard for hospital admissions, ICU admissions and a world map of Covid tests conducted by every country. The United States on the plus side has the highest Covid tests conducted but on the downside also has more hospitalizations and critical patients than any other country.
The Covid-19 database was obtained from https://ourworldindata.org/covid-deaths and was imported to BigQuery from CSV files. Using SQL queries I was able to extract insights related to infection percentages by country, death percentages by country, hospitalization rates, vaccination and testing rates etc.To be able to visualize all this in a clear, concise and interactable manner, I created two dashboards on Tableau which are linked below.
