If you want professional-grade sound isolation and a lightweight, durable build for long studio sessions, choose Audio-Technica ATH-M30x; if you need high sensitivity drivers, a wider frequency range, and extra comfort features for daily wear, choose OneOdio A71.
• Audio-Technica ATH-M30x: Excels in rugged aluminum construction and superior passive noise isolation for loud environments, but the single-side cable exit can be tricky for some setups. Best for audio engineers who prioritize durability and accurate mid-range definition.
• OneOdio A71: Offers higher sensitivity and an extended frequency response that reveals more detail in quiet passages, though its plastic enclosure feels slightly less premium than metal alternatives. Best for home listeners and DJs who value volume and bass clarity over heavy-duty industrial specs.
The Audio-Technica ATH-M30x is engineered with a specific purpose in mind: professional monitoring where accuracy and isolation are non-negotiable. The circumaural design contours tightly around the ears, creating a seal that blocks out external noise effectively. This makes it an ideal choice for anyone working in busy studios or recording on location where ambient noise could ruin a take. The build quality reflects this intent, utilizing aluminum materials that contribute to a sense of robustness without adding excessive weight. At 0.22 kg, these headphones remain light enough for extended wear, which is crucial when you are mixing tracks or editing video for hours on end.
For glasses wearers, the fit is particularly notable because the ear pads are designed to accommodate the frame arms comfortably while maintaining that necessary seal. The "sleep headphones for glasses wearers" crowd often struggles with pressure points, but the rounded tips and circumaural shape here distribute pressure evenly. You won't feel the clamping force digging into your temples after an hour of use. The included accessories also speak to a professional workflow; having a sturdy protective case and a snap-on 6.3 mm adapter means you are ready to plug directly into mixing consoles or studio interfaces immediately upon unboxing.

However, this product isn't for everyone. If you are looking for wireless freedom or battery life, this wired-only unit will not serve you. Furthermore, the single-side cable exit, while convenient for some, requires you to route the cable carefully if you switch between left and right usage frequently. The focus here is purely on the audio fidelity and the mechanical reliability of the connection. The 40 millimeter drivers with rare earth magnets and copper-clad aluminum wire voice coils deliver excellent mid-range definition, ensuring that vocals and instruments sit perfectly in the mix. If your priority is hearing exactly what is recorded without coloration, this is the tool for the job. But if you prefer a warmer, more consumer-oriented sound signature out of the box, you might find the clinical nature of these monitors too revealing.
The OneOdio A71 takes a different approach, focusing on accessibility and raw output power through its driver configuration. With a sensitivity rating of 110 dB compared to the M30x's 100 dB, these headphones will produce significantly louder volumes with the same input signal. This makes them exceptionally efficient for users driving their headphones from lower-power sources like laptops or mobile devices without needing an external amplifier. The frequency response extends up to 40 kHz, offering a broader theoretical range that captures subtle high-frequency details often lost in standard 20 kHz consumer gear. For a listener who wants to hear every breath in a vocal track or the shimmer of cymbals, this extended range provides a more expansive soundscape.
Comfort is another major pillar for the OneOdio A71, specifically regarding the materials used. While the enclosure is made of plastic rather than aluminum, the design prioritizes a soft, plush fit that many users find forgiving. The foldable design and the inclusion of a woven carrying case make it highly portable, appealing to students, travelers, or casual listeners who toss their gear into a backpack daily. The dual-jack connectivity (3.5mm and 6.35mm) offers flexibility for connecting to various devices, from computers to DJ controllers, without needing extra adapters. This versatility makes it a strong candidate for those who switch between different audio sources regularly.
Despite these strengths, the trade-offs exist. The plastic construction, while lighter, does not offer the same long-term structural resilience as the metal components found in the Audio-Technica alternative. For someone who needs headphones to survive drops or rough handling in a touring environment, the A71 might feel slightly less secure. Additionally, the sound isolation, while present, relies on standard padding rather than the specialized acoustic engineering of the M-Series. For bone conduction headphones for glasses wearers, this model offers a traditional over-ear experience that still accommodates frames well, but the clamping force might feel different depending on your head shape. If you prioritize a fun, energetic sound profile and ease of use over surgical precision, the OneOdio A71 delivers that energy consistently.
• Best for professional isolation → Audio-Technica ATH-M30x (Superior circumaural seal blocks more ambient noise).
• Best for volume efficiency → OneOdio A71 (110 dB sensitivity drives harder from weak sources).
• Best for durability → Audio-Technica ATH-M30x (Aluminum construction resists wear better than plastic).
• Best for extended frequency range → OneOdio A71 (Reaches 40 kHz vs 20 kHz for more airy highs).
• Best for travel portability → OneOdio A71 (Foldable design fits easily into compact bags).
• Best for studio mixing → Audio-Technica ATH-M30x (Tuned for flat, accurate mid-range reproduction).
• Best for multi-device use → OneOdio A71 (Includes both 3.5mm and 6.35mm jacks for direct compatibility).
• Best for comfort during long sessions → Both are good, but Audio-Technica edges ahead for its balanced weight distribution.
I would choose the Audio-Technica ATH-M30x for my own setup because the combination of aluminum build quality and precise mid-range tuning offers a level of reliability I trust implicitly. When I am working on projects that require critical listening, I need a pair of headphones that won't distort under pressure and will isolate me completely from the chaos of a busy room. The fact that they work so well for glasses wearers due to the ergonomic contouring seals the deal for me. However, if your primary goal is simply enjoying music at high volumes with a wide frequency spread on a budget, the OneOdio A71 is a compelling alternative that punches above its weight class. Ultimately, the decision comes down to whether you need a precision instrument for work or a versatile companion for play.
Yes, both models feature circumaural designs that contour around the ears, making them suitable for glasses wearers, though the Audio-Technica's padded fit is specifically noted for extended comfort.
Neither model features active noise cancellation technology; however, the Audio-Technica ATH-M30x offers superior passive noise isolation due to its tight circumaural seal and professional-grade ear pads.
Both support wired connections with 3.5mm and 6.35mm jacks, allowing you to connect directly to PCs, mixers, and other audio equipment without additional adapters.
No, both have sufficient sensitivity (100 dB for Audio-Technica and 110 dB for OneOdio) to perform well with standard laptop or phone outputs, though the OneOdio will get louder more easily.
