If you want a wired, high-fidelity gaming headset with detachable parts and studio-quality audio for your console or PC, choose audio Technica ATH-G1; if you need a wireless TV listening solution with massive battery life, voice clarity features, and a charging dock, choose Avantree Audikast 3.
These two products sit in completely different lanes of the audio market. One is built for immersive gaming on hardwired consoles and computers, while the other is engineered specifically to solve the problem of hearing dialogue on television without disturbing others. The ATH-G1 offers a closed-back design with large drivers and a flexible boom mic, perfect for competitive play or critical listening where silence is key. The Avantree set, however, brings Bluetooth 5.3 technology, aptX-Adaptive support, and a unique "Clear Voice Mode" designed to boost speech volume while cutting background noise.
Choosing between them isn't about which brand is more popular or which one has more reviews; it is about what you are actually trying to do. Are you sitting at a desk playing video games on a PS5, Xbox Series X, or a gaming laptop? Or are you trying to watch late-night TV in a shared living space where you need to hear every word clearly but don't want to turn up the volume for everyone else? The answer to that single question dictates which of these devices belongs in your cart.
• audio Technica ATH-G1: Best strength is its premium wired sound quality with large-diameter drivers and detachable microphone; biggest trade-off is the lack of wireless freedom and reliance on a 6.6-foot cable. Ideal for gamers who prioritize audio fidelity and console compatibility over portability.
• Avantree Audikast 3: Best strength is its exceptional 50-hour battery life and specialized Clear Voice Mode for TV dialogue; biggest trade-off is the absence of a wired jack connection, requiring a Bluetooth-enabled source or transmitter. Ideal for seniors, heavy TV watchers, and anyone needing long-range wireless comfort.
The audio Technica ATH-G1 is designed for people who treat their gaming setup as a serious hobby. This headset is not just about looking cool on a stream; it is built around a specific engineering philosophy that prioritizes sound isolation and driver performance. At the heart of this device are large-diameter 45mm drivers. These components are tuned to deliver an immersive sound quality that allows you to hear subtle details in game audio, from the footsteps of an opponent in a tactical shooter to the swelling orchestral score in a cinematic RPG. The frequency range spans from 10Hz to 35kHz, which suggests a capability to reproduce both deep bass and crisp highs far beyond the standard human hearing limit, ensuring that no detail is lost in the mix.
One of the most practical aspects of this headset is its flexibility regarding connectivity and customization. It comes with a 2.0 mm (6.6') attached cable that includes a simple volume control and a microphone mute switch. This means you can adjust your audio levels or silence your mic instantly with one hand, a crucial feature during intense multiplayer matches where you might not have time to fumble with software settings. The headset connects via a standard 3.5 mm TRRS headset connector, making it compatible with a vast array of devices including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, gaming laptops, and PCs. If you have a system that separates headphone and microphone inputs, the included Y-shaped adapter handles that conversion seamlessly.

For those who value longevity and maintenance, the ATH-G1 offers a level of serviceability that many modern headsets ignore. The earpads and headband are detachable, allowing for easy replacement if they wear out over time. Furthermore, the gaming microphone itself is detachable. If you ever want to use these headphones as a pair of studio-quality, high-fidelity music listeners rather than a gaming tool, you can simply remove the boom mic and enjoy the sound of the 45mm drivers without the bulk. The construction is described as strong and lightweight, using plastic materials to keep the weight manageable during long sessions. With a max input capacity of 1,300mW, these headphones can handle significant power, ensuring they remain dynamic and responsive even when pushed.
However, this headset is not for everyone. If you are looking for a wireless solution to move around your house while gaming, this will frustrate you immediately due to the tethered cable. While the cable is durable and features a convenient length, it still anchors you to your device. Additionally, if you plan to use this primarily for casual listening on a smartphone without a dedicated audio jack, you will need to ensure your phone supports the necessary adapters or connections. It is strictly a wired experience. The closed-back design provides excellent sound isolation, which is great for blocking out distractions, but it also means you won't be able to hear ambient sounds around you, such as someone calling your name or a smoke alarm going off. This makes it a poor choice for situations where situational awareness is required.
This product is best suited for the dedicated gamer who wants a reliable, high-performance audio rig that works directly with their console or PC. It is also an excellent choice for content creators who need a clear, directional pickup from the boom mic and want the option to swap to a pure listening mode later. If you are looking for the best bluetooth headset for airplane travel, this is likely not the right tool, as it lacks wireless capabilities and relies on a physical connection that may not be available on all aircraft entertainment systems.
The Avantree Audikast 3 bundle takes a completely different approach, focusing entirely on the home theater and accessibility experience. This is not a gaming headset in the traditional sense; it is a comprehensive audio ecosystem designed to make watching television easier, clearer, and more comfortable. The centerpiece of this system is the ability to deliver amplified, louder-than-average volumes. This feature is explicitly engineered for seniors, the elderly, and individuals with hearing difficulties who struggle to hear dialogue over background noise. By boosting voice volumes and reducing surrounding chatter, the "Clear Voice Mode" transforms how you experience TV shows and movies, ensuring that every line of dialogue is distinct and understandable.
Battery life is where this product truly shines compared to almost any competitor in its category. You get up to 50 hours of uninterrupted playtime on a single charge. For context, that means you could listen to podcasts, news, or movies for weeks without ever needing to plug in a charger. When the battery eventually does run low, the system includes a wireless charging dock. This stand serves a dual purpose: it stores your headphones securely and charges them effortlessly without the hassle of finding the right cable or aligning a charging port. This convenience factor is invaluable for users who might struggle with small connectors or dexterity issues.
Connectivity is handled via Bluetooth 5.3, which offers a stable connection with a range of up to 30.48 meters (approximately 100 feet). This allows you to walk around your living room or kitchen without losing signal or experiencing dropouts. The system supports aptX-Adaptive and HD audio codecs, powered by an advanced Qualcomm chipset. This ensures that despite being wireless, the stereo audio quality remains high, preserving the nuances of the soundtrack and special effects. The headphones themselves are over-ear designs with touch controls, allowing you to manage playback and calls with a simple tap.
Despite these strengths, there are limitations to consider. This system requires a source that supports Bluetooth or a separate transmitter (which must be connected to the TV's optical or AUX output, though the dock itself does not act as a transmitter). If your television does not have Bluetooth built-in, you cannot simply pair the headphones directly; you would need to rely on the included transmitter capabilities if available in the full bundle setup. Furthermore, the focus on voice amplification and battery life means the build might feel slightly less "gaming-oriented" than a rigid, tactical headset. The design is sleek and functional, but it lacks the rugged, armored aesthetic often found in gaming peripherals.
This product is ideal for anyone who spends a lot of time watching TV and wants to avoid turning up the volume to deafening levels. It is particularly well-suited for families where multiple people are watching, allowing the listener to enjoy private audio without disturbing others. It is also a top contender for the best gaming headset for airplane scenarios if you are flying domestically and can connect to an in-flight entertainment system via Bluetooth, though wired connections are generally more reliable on planes. However, if you are looking for earphones for airplane travel that require a direct 3.5mm jack connection without needing a transmitter, this wireless-only approach might not fit your needs unless you bring a specific adapter.

• Best for TV dialogue clarity → Avantree Audikast 3, featuring the specialized Clear Voice Mode that boosts speech and reduces background noise.
• Best for wireless freedom → Avantree Audikast 3, providing a 100ft Bluetooth range versus the 6.6-foot tether of the ATH-G1.
• Best for durability and repairability → audio Technica ATH-G1, with detachable earpads, headbands, and microphones that can be replaced individually.
• Best for console compatibility → audio Technica ATH-G1, natively supporting PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Series X via standard 3.5mm plugs.
• Best for accessibility needs → Avantree Audikast 3, specifically designed for seniors and hard-of-hearing users with amplified volume controls.

In my opinion, if I were buying a headset specifically for my gaming setup or for high-fidelity music listening, I would choose the audio Technica ATH-G1. The combination of large-diameter drivers, a wide frequency response, and the ability to detach the microphone gives me the versatility to use it as a premium audio tool in multiple contexts. The wired connection ensures zero latency, which is non-negotiable for competitive gaming, and the build quality feels like it will last for years with replaceable parts.
However, if my primary goal was to improve my TV watching experience, especially for late-night viewing or for someone with hearing difficulties, I would buy the Avantree Audikast 3. The 50-hour battery life and wireless charging dock offer a level of convenience that a wired headset simply cannot match. The Clear Voice Mode is a game-changer for understanding dialogue without straining, and the Bluetooth 5.3 connection keeps me free from cables.
Ultimately, the decision rests on your environment. If you are looking for the best bluetooth headset for airplane travel, neither is a perfect fit without checking specific airline policies, but the Avantree's wireless nature might be more adaptable if the seat has Bluetooth. If you need earphones for airplane travel that work with older seats lacking Bluetooth, the ATH-G1's wired nature is a safer bet if you have an adapter. For the average user torn between these two, the ATH-G1 wins on raw audio potential and gaming utility, while the Avantree wins on lifestyle integration and accessibility. I recommend checking the current price on Amazon for both to see which fits your budget, as the value proposition shifts depending on the specific bundle deals available.
