We design Atom Browser to maximize user privacy and minimize data collection:
No collection of personal or sensitive user data
No tracking, telemetry, or analytics
No user accounts or identity linkage
No sharing of user data with third parties
Privacy-by-design approach
Atom Browser (Android & Desktop)
Atom Browser is designed to operate without collecting or transmitting your personal information.
What we do NOT collect:
IP addresses
Browsing history
Device identifiers (e.g., Android ID, IMEI)
Location data
Search queries
Saved passwords or form data
What is stored locally on your device (never transmitted):
Atom Browser stores certain data only on your device to provide core browsing functionality. This data is never sent to us or any third party.
Examples include:
Bookmarks – saved locally for your convenience
Download history – stored locally to help you manage files
Browsing settings – such as homepage, search engine preference, and privacy settings
Site permissions – such as whether a site can show notifications or access your microphone
Saved passwords (if you choose to enable this feature) – stored locally and encrypted
Session data:
Browsing session data (open tabs, temporary site data, cookies, cache) is stored only during active use.
This data is cleared when you close the app or manually clear browsing data.
Private Browsing Mode:
When using Private Browsing Mode, no history, cookies, or form data is stored after you close the private tab.
No remote telemetry or analytics:
Atom Browser does not send usage statistics, crash reports, or performance data to any remote server.
Atom Browser for Android may request the following permissions only when necessary for specific features. No permissions are used for data collection or user tracking.
Common permissions:
INTERNET – required to browse the web
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE – to detect network availability (e.g., Wi-Fi or mobile data)
Optional permissions (requested only when you use relevant features):
STORAGE (or MEDIA on newer Android versions) – required to download files or upload files from your device
CAMERA – required for web-based features such as taking photos or scanning QR codes (only when a website requests it)
MICROPHONE – required for voice search or web-based voice features (only when you enable them)
LOCATION – required only if a website requests location access, and only after you explicitly grant permission
Note: All optional permissions are subject to Android's runtime permission model. You are always in control and can grant or deny permissions at any time.
What Atom Browser does NOT request access to:
Contacts
Device identifiers (IMEI, Android ID)
Phone call logs or SMS data
User accounts or login credentials (unless voluntarily entered by you on a website)
No user data is shared with third parties. Atom Browser does not integrate with third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking services.
Search engine queries:
When you perform a search from the address bar, your search query is sent to your selected search engine (e.g., Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo).
This is a standard browser function and is not controlled by Atom Browser.
We recommend using a privacy-respecting search engine (such as DuckDuckGo) if you are concerned about search query collection.
Software updates:
Atom Browser may check for available updates from our update server.
These update checks do not transmit any personal or device-identifying information.
Website interactions:
When you visit websites, those websites may collect their own data (such as cookies, IP addresses, and browsing behavior).
Atom Browser does not control or assume responsibility for the privacy practices of third-party websites.
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any websites you visit.
No persistent personal data is collected or transmitted by Atom Browser.
Local data that you can delete at any time:
Browsing history
Cookies and site data
Cached images and files
Saved passwords
Autofill form data
Bookmarks and downloads (manually deleted by you)
How to clear local data:
You can clear all browsing data at any time through the app's Settings > Clear Browsing Data menu.
You can also delete individual bookmarks or downloads manually.
Uninstalling the app will remove all locally stored data from your device.
Private Browsing Mode (PBM):
On Android, PBM prevents local storage of history, cookies, or session data.
On Desktop, PBM works similarly and clears session data when private tabs are closed.
