Who Are We?

The Mackenzie Athletic Council is a school-wide committee that promotes health, wellness, physical activity, and athletics at William Lyon Mackenzie CI! Through sporting events, community outreach, and in-school fundraising M.A.C. strives to celebrate all that is athletics! Keep updated HERE, as we kick off another exciting year!!!

Monday Mar. 5-Friday Apr. 19

Badminton

Despite being one of the youngest badminton team's in the North, this year's team was a force to be reckoned with all season long. After the regular season, our Lyons finished with 162 team points, falling just 5 short from qualifying for team playoffs. At North Region Championships, qualified athletes competed in 7 out of 10 events! Huge congratulations goes out to Hannah Hewang (Grade 9) (who went undefeated throughout the regular season) for finishing in 2nd place in girls singles, qualifying her for City Championships. Mackenzie also finished 3rd for combined point totals for overall female events! The arrow is pointed North for this budding badminton program! There is lots to look forward to in the years to come. A big thank you goes out to Ms. Law and Mr. Hua on a very fun and successful season!

Monday Feb. 18-Friday Mar. 1

Varsity Boys Hockey

The varsity boys hockey team were on a roll after two straight victories over Earl Haig! After dominating them in the last regular season game (4-1), they followed it up by eliminating Haig with a convincing 3-1 victory in the quarterfinals. On Tuesday Feb. 26, our Lyons hung on to defeat a scrappy Macdonald squad in the semi-finals (2-1) to advance to the North Region Finals. In the school's first Hockey Winter Classic Buyout, our Lyons faced their crosstown rivals, York Mills CI. After missing several quality chances early, the boys couldn't recover after falling behind in the second period and eventually earned silver in the North Region Finals! Congrats to the boys and a huge thank you goes out to Mr. Whitfield, Mr. Di Salle, and Mr. Willis for such a fun and memorable season!

Senior Boys Basketball

In the Regional Final, our Lyons squared off against an undefeated Westview Wildcat squad! After trailing by 18, the boys fought back early in the 3rd quarter and cut the deficit down to 10. Despite a strong effort, they fell short in the end, earning a silver medal!

In the City Semi-Final Match, our Lyons visted Richview CI to play Central Toronto Academy! Led by Ben Tarik-Kaminker and Noah Tolkin the boys kept close til the very end but didn't have enough fire power to take the dub. A huge thanks goes out to Mr. A for coaching in the final game! Many of these players were under your tutelage in season's past which made this game extra special. And thank you to community coach Zack Remez for stepping up to allow this season/team to run. Amazing season boys!



Junior Boys Basketball

The junior boys basketball team defeated Downsview 54-50 in the North Region Semi-Finals. In the Regional Finals they took on a fierce CW Jefferys squad and despite a valiant fight, the boys came up just short, earning a silver medal (70-57)! Thank you to Mr. A for your continued leadership and support throughout the season. Great job Lyons!


Varsity Wrestling

The wrestling team had much success at North Region Championships! 10 athletes medalled including: first place finishes from Susan Ma, Andy Mok, Kesia Lozada, Mimi Le, Alex Yeung, Indiana Hobson-Rodriguez and second place finishes from Cesia Campos, Alissa Nguyen! The boys finished 4th overall and the girls finished 2nd overall, great job Lyons!


Monday Feb. 4-Friday Feb. 15

Varsity Boys Hockey

The senior boys hockey team have lost two very close games since returning from the exam break. The scores were 0-1 vs Macdonald and 3-5 vs Don Mills. They look to bounce back in their final regular season game vs Earl Haig before playoffs!



Junior Girls Volleyball

The Junior Girls Volleyball Team fought hard but came up just short vs York Mills CI in the North Region Semi-Finals (25-18, 25-20)! Mr. Hua is very proud of the progress the girls made throughout the season and look forward to what lies ahead next year!


Junior Boys Basketball

The junior boys basketball team defeated Downsview 54-50 in the North Region Semi-Finals. They look to take home the championship vs CW Jefferys! Go Lyons Go!







Senior Boys Basketball

At the Crescent invitational, the senior boys basketball team won two straight games against Wexford CI (61-57) and Mowat CI (63-53)! Despite a strong effort, the boys dropped their quarterfinal match vs the host team Crescent 42-70.

The boys play Westview Centennial in the North Region Finals and will compete in City Championships next week! All the best Lyons!

Senior Girls Volleyball

The senior girls volleyball team dropped three straight sets vs Don Mills CI in the Regional Semi-Finals. Many thanks goes out to Ms. Huntley and Ms. Nicholishen for their coaching contributions throughout the season!


Monday Jan. 7-Friday Jan. 18

Varsity Boys Hockey

The boys travelled to Herb Caregie Arena last Wednesday to square off against Northview Heights SS. After a dominating performance, our Lyons walked away with a 7-2 victory. Shout out to Swaggy Waggy for a solid performance behind the pipes! Our Lyons await a rescheduled game vs Earl Haig to finish out the regular season!




Junior Girls Volleyball

The junior girls ended their season on top as they defeated cross town rivals York Mills CI! They finish the regular season with a 6-1 record atop the North West and will square off against George S. Henry in the regional quarter-finals on Wednesday Feb. 6! Come on out to support your girls!


Junior Boys Basketball

After returning from the holiday break, the junior boys were back into the thick of things with a 3-game week! Our Lyons finished 1-2, defeating CW Jefferys Blue, but losing to Downsview SS and CW Jefferys Yellow.

At the Richview Invitational Tournament, the boys played extremely well throughout and walked away with a 3rd place finish after dominating Martingrove CI! The boys await the matchup between CW Jefferys Yellow vs Downsview SS for final seedings!





Senior Boys Basketball

Fresh off a tournament win at this year's Hoopdome Invitational Tournament, our Lyons visited Downsview Secondary to wrap up their regular season play. After a slow start that saw both teams trading buckets, MAC pulled away late to secure the victory! With the win, MAC finishes with a record of 6-1 and will crossover to play Sir John A. Macdonald in the quarter-finals on Feb. 6th. Come on out to support your boys!







Senior Girls Volleyball

The senior girls wrapped up their regular season with a win over Northview Heights and a loss to Earl Haig. The girls finish the season 3rd overall with a record of 2-4 and will visit Don Mills CI on Thursday Feb. 7 for their regional quarter-final! All the best ladies!

Junior Girls Volleyball

The Junior Girls Volleyball Team opened up their season with a dominant victory over Lawrence Park on Monday afternoon! Behind strong serving and stable setting, the ladies were able to brush off a slow first set start (23-25) to rally back in convincing fasion in both the 2nd and 3rd sets (25-11, 15-5). The girls will square off vs. Vanier at HOME on Monday, come on out to support your Lyons!

Senior Girls Volleyball

Despite a strong battle vs. Lawrence Park the Senior Girls Volleyball Team came up short in their season opener, losing in 2 straight sets (18-25, 25-27)! They look to bounce back vs. Vanier at HOME on Monday afternoon, come on out to support!

Jr. and Sr. Boys Indoor Boys Soccer

Both the Junior and Senior Boys Indoor Soccer Teams opened up their season vs. Northview earlier on in the week. Despite a valiant effort from both teams, they were defeated (2-11 and 0-8 respectively). They look to bounce back next Monday vs. Macdonald! Good luck Lyons!

Senior Boys Basketball

The Senior Boys Basketball Team remained undefeated (4-0) on the season as they dominated Northview Heights Friday afternoon. Through a balanced attack our Lyons scored 63 points to Northview's 30! Their next match-up will be against Newtonbrook next week, all the best boys!



Monday Nov. 26-Friday Nov. 30

Junior Boys Basketball

The Junior Boys Basketball Team remained undefeated this week as they beat both Emery CI (59-45) and North Toronto CI (46-43). Justin Itabac and Cameron Doxator led the Lyons with 16 points each in their home opener vs Emery CI. A full team effort was needed vs. a pesky North Toronto team, but they managed to come away with a nail-biting victory. This brings the boys' overall record to 3-0 and look to carry this momentum into next week!

Wrestling

The Wrestling Team traveled to Wellington for their first tournament of the season. Notable finishes include 1st place finishes by Mitchell Rubinstein, Kesia Lozada, and Mimi Le! Indiana Rodriguez and Susan Ma finished 2nd in their respective divisions! Many other first-time wrestlers also finished with top 5 results! The Lyons look to keep the good times rolling next week as they compete at the Newtonbrook SS Invitational on Tuesday Dec. 4th!

Senior Boys Basketball

The Senior Boys Basketball Team also remained undefeated this week as they beat both Emery CI (58-38) and North Toronto (56-49). Nicholas Jegede led all scorers with 17 points vs Emery, while a balanced attack was needed to take down North Toronto. This brings the boys' overall record to 3-0 and look to carry this momentum into Friday's seasonal matchup vs. Northview Heights SS!

Monday Nov. 19-Friday Nov. 23

Junior/Senior Boys Basketball

Both the junior and senior boys basketball teams squared off vs. Earl Haig on Friday evening in exhibition tilts. Leading scorer Cameron Doxator (21 points) paced the junior team to victory 51-29. Nicholas Jegede led all senior scorers with 14 points, as the senior squad also cruised to victory 47-29! Both teams face off against Emery in their home opener on Tuesday Nov. 27, come on out to support your Lyons!

Monday Nov. 12-Friday Nov. 16

The Fall Sports season has finally come to an end. A big thanks goes out to the teachers and community coaches who continue to support athletics at MAC! Tryouts for the following teams are currently taking place for the winter season:

Monday Nov. 5-Friday Nov. 9

Senior Girls Basketball

The Senior Girls Basketball Team clawed their way to a narrow 27-26 victory over Don Mills CI in their quarterfinal match on Friday!

On Monday, the girls went up against a scrappy John A. Macdonald team who pushed them to the limits. After leading 13-9 in the first, our Lyons ran out of steam by the 4th, losing 41-50. Thanks to Mr. Malo, Ms. Mancini, and Isaiah for an amazing run and season!

Junior Boys Volleyball

The boys visited York Mills last night for their north region semi-final match. The team came out flat to start and could not recover, dropping two sets straight to the Titans (22-25, 18-25). The potential is boundless for this squad, so look out next year! Mr. Hua thanks the boys for a strong season!

Junior Girls Basketball

The Junior Girls Basketball Team played hard, but fell just short in triple over time in their quarterfinal vs. Earl Haig (22-24)! The girls had an amazing season and it wouldn't have been possible without the guidance and support from Ms. Huntley and Mr. Nguyen. Thank you once again!

Monday Oct. 29 - Friday Nov. 2

Senior Girls Basketball

The Senior Girls Basketball Team will look to stay undefeated on Tuesday Oct. 30th as they travel to and square off vs. Newtonbrook for their last regular season game. Their quarterfinal match will be on Friday Nov. 2nd at MAC! Come out to cheer on your Lyons!

Junior Boys Volleyball

The Junior Boys Volleyball Team finished their season strong, as they swept their seasonal matchup vs. York Mills 2-0 in an exciting three set match on Monday (16-25, 25-23, 15-9)!

The boys also dominated Northview in their quarterfinal match on Wednesday 2-0 (25-20, 25-17)! They now await the winner between York Mills and J. Polanyi for their semi-final game next week! Great Job Lyons!

Junior Girls Basketball

The Junior Girls Basketball Team finished their regular season with a nail biting 20-25 loss to AY Jackson. They look to bounce back as they play their quarterfinal match on Thursday Nov. 1st @ Earl Haig! Good luck ladies!

Senior Boys Volleyball

The Senior Boys Volleyball team travelled to Don Mills Tuesday evening for their last regular season match. The boys fought hard, but came up just short losing in two straight sets (22-25, 18-25). They now wait to see if they have qualified for playoffs, stay tuned!

Varsity Boys Soccer

The Varsity Boys Soccer Team traveled to Victoria Park to play their quarterfinal match Tuesday evening. After falling behind early 0-1, the Lyons rallied back to tie it up late in overtime. Unfortunately Vic Park would score the winning and golden goal that would conclude MAC's outdoor soccer season.

Mr. Hadida would like to congratulate the Boys Varsity soccer team on the completion of their successful season. They went undefeated at home and qualified for the playoffs. They learned from their defeats and became better as the season progressed. They handled their loss in the Quarter-Finals in overtime with class. Congratulations once again! Try outs for the junior and senior boys indoor soccer teams will be held in December. Check the Co-op Board beside the Co-op office, room 226, for exact times and dates.
