Who is the RGLSOSS Sanggunian for? This is the question that came to Kenshin’s mind when he first discerned his candidacy for the office of the RGLSOSS School Representative. It was a difficult question, not because it had no answer, but because the community is diverse, layered, and vibrant, made up of people with different realities. In consultations with various stakeholders, it becomes clear that there must be an active effort to meet people where they are; that way, the Sanggunian becomes one that is for the Whole-of-SOSS.

In one part, this has been Kenshin’s mission in the past years that he has served in student government. He continues to join efforts in engaging the larger community. Our goal must be to introduce the mechanisms that give way to the conditions needed to become a School Sanggunian that is for everyone. In building a Whole-of-SOSS approach, there is a need for actors who will open the table for participation with the community. It is important to ensure that there continues to be space for students to grow across diverse backgrounds, interests, and experiences.

Since his time in Ateneo, Kenshin has served two years as a course representative. He has experienced firsthand the effects of institutional constraints on the ability to improve our student welfare. Yet, looking inward also shows the need to empower constituencies in ways that go beyond mere consultation. As an Associate Magistrate in the Ateneo Student Judicial Court, he has realized that making legislation more responsive and sound will go a long way. There is a need to make actionable decisions based on issues that are seen, felt, and encountered.

Platforms

Part of Shin-ergizing SOSS involves shaping our spaces from the ground up, always together with our students.

1. SOSS Helpdesk for Assistance, Protection, and Equity Support

Through SHAPES, we will strengthen how our Sanggunian delivers by streamlining our service delivery mechanisms and building a more responsive, student-centric model of decision-making.

2. EduWel Program

With EduWel, we take a concrete, three-pronged approach that includes restructuring the Student Academic Subsidy, sustaining our SOSSPan for essential food and academic supplies, and equipping students through capacity-building workshops.

3. Consult SOSS

And through Consult SOSS, we open the floor to you—a people’s assembly where students aren’t just consulted, but actively co-create solutions. A policy hackathon for the issues that matter most, grounded in a truly Whole-of-SOSS approach.

Let’s unite diverse groups in shared spaces by co-producing a Whole-of-SOSS approach to governance with our Organizations, Sanggunian members, and Systems.

4. SOSS Spaces

Through SOSS Spaces, we aim to develop a resource-partnership, community-driven fundraising fair where students, alongside their course representatives and home organizations, can lead and implement advocacy-based initiatives. By providing the necessary logistical, financial, and administrative support, we can develop programs that answer the question, “What is SOSS for you?”

5. Purse-uing SOSS

With Purse-uing SOSS, we will create an ad hoc committee to build a stronger, more responsive, and comprehensive resource management system. By opening our policymaking process, we invite home organizations to help direct fiscal policies and guide decisions on fund allocation.

6. RGLSOSS Sanggunian's HR Code

And finally, our HR Code serves as a framework for a more people-centric Sanggunian—from community-building initiatives to rolling recruitment—fostering a healthier organizational and collaborative culture.
