【CANON STORY DISCLAIMER】

This AU involving AT0M goes mostly by the canon story of Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, with some liberties taken. Here is a small list of the changes I have made to the story:

AT0M's involvement is after the main plot of the manga, so there may be spoilers mentioned.
This takes place about a year or two after the end of the manga, Yako decided to go to university in her travels and works with Neuro and Godai on the side. Here is a link to some of the headcannons I made of the main cast: LINK
The university is based on a Canadian university because that is what I know.

AT0M is a demon that escaped from Hell and has been living on Earth for about seven years now. In a human disguise, AT0M goes by Adam and has a job repairing tech alongside going to university.

AT0M always hides their demon form. Since they have been on earth with tech they can eat, their magic is stronger, but the lack of shouki makes them feel fatigued 24/7.

After getting out of the chaotic mess that was Hell, AT0M has had a much better life on Earth where they relate to more people. They were always an oddball in Hell, so they are happier for it. Because the technology on Earth is completely inorganic, unlike the tech in Hell, they easily made their way into society and adapted quickly to human standards and mannerisms due to their ability to manipulate tech. Although they hide what they are, AT0M finds a lot more belonging here.

AT0M is a natural at many things as long as it's not including physical activity. They work hard at the things they are good at, happily honing their skills and always wanting to push themselves further. Working this hard often leaves AT0M in poor health, they forget to fulfil basic needs like eating or drinking and usually need reminding. The lack of shouki on Earth also makes them feel chronic fatigue, which can make them feel dazed and confused if they work a little too hard that day.

Despite being free of the shackles from their previous life, AT0M still has a deep-seated need to be against authorities or people that try to control their actions. They are still a demon, after all.

Demon Ability

"The power to go into or maniplulate any active tech by a simple touch. They can travel between corded networks, and can fully utilize the potiental of any tech as long as it has the coding!"

Malware is a very powerful ability that allows AT0M the ability to completely manipulate technology and travel through connected technology by touch, as long as the device or system is powered on. Not only are they able to use the tech just by a touch, once they are inside it, they can use any system that has been coded into that particular device to do what they like. Since they are well practiced, most firewalls and system defenses are useless against them and they know how to not leave any traces.

AT0M can be halted by powerful defenses, but since Malware allows AT0M complete control of the system once they are inside, they can break through if they have time and energy. AT0M can also use tech by just touching from the outside, but they can only use the system to its basic functions and are limited by system protections unless they enter it.

Overuse of their ability can make AT0M feel a variety of different symptoms such as: delusions, chronic fatigue, migraines, excessive nosebleeds, dazed, slow to respond, incoherent, or passing out completely.

STRENGTHS

Extremely adaptable and flexible ability that allows powerful recon and support. There is also opportunities for offense if the device used is something like a drone or robot.
Since they are on Earth, their magic is much stronger then it was in Hell due to the abundance of tech.
Stealth and infiltration are key since they can travel through power grids and connected power circuits.
AT0M is very good at hiding themself in a device and makes it incredibly difficult or even impossible to find them.

WEAKNESSES

They cannot go into any technology that is not powered on in some way. The ability is limited through functioning electrical circuits.
If a device is destroyed or turned off while they are in it, they are automatically shoved out of the technology. It is extremely disorienting, leaves them dazed for a period of time, and can sometimes be painful.
Since they need to eat tech to survive, a place with no devices or tech leaves them powerless.
They can only use what has been programmed into the code of a device. (e.g. They cannot go into a toaster and call somebody.)
The lack of shouki makes them physically very weak unless they use their demonic scales.

NOTABLE ABILITIES

【DEMON FORM】— In their demon form, AT0M's skin is nearly impenetrable due to their lizard-like scales that can appear anywhere on their skin; AT0M still bruises rather easy though. Their tail and horns are also incredibly strong.

【SYSTEM OVERLOAD】— AT0M can willfully overload the device with information and make it unable to be used. They can do this just through touching where they would put so many inputs that the device crashes and has to refresh. Or AT0M can go inside the device and add so much bloat information that it stops working all together and would need a system refresh.

【BATTERY & CHARGE】— AT0M's ability was originally used in Hell to make energy batteries. AT0M can make any object into a demon battery and then fill that by using their own energy or another demon's energy.

【CIRCUIT】— By holding a battery and channeling another demon's energy, AT0M can act as a circuit and fill a battery with the energy of another demon.

HISTORY

AT0M is raised in the Demon Realm. Word gets out they are a powerful battery producer and they are taken in by royal demons that force them into a job with no end. They treat them okay if they follow rules and meet quotas.
They build up their strength for an escape, socializing with other demons willing to speak to them and forming connections.
AT0M becomes very good at reading personalities and whims of royals and avoiding bad scenarios.
They learn from chatty demons that there is ways to go into the Human Realm. AT0M stews on this information and behaves well so others will trust them.
During a meeting with other royal demons, AT0M gets their face accidently scarred by the Brain Eater with a mishap with some cutlery. They bandage their nose to not anger the ones that keep them.
After a long time, AT0M learns how to activate a Human Realm portal. With all their connections, AT0M is able to create an opportunity to leave for good.
In the Human Realm, AT0M initially struggles to reframe their way of life, but they realize how strong their magic is here compared to in the Demon Realm. They use that to their advantage.
They start a tech repair shop and get an apartment above it after funneling money to themselves to start.
AT0M doesn't realize they have been stalked for standing out and [REDACTED]. They end up with a scar on their neck. The man is sent to jail.
They decide they don't understand humans well enough and go to university to take sociology and psychology.

Current

AT0M has been going to university for the past five years along side running a tech repair shop as a way to disguise their demon form. They have found a comfortable form of living here in the Human Realm, finally happy after suffering in the Demon Realm for so long. Although their body has grown weaker due to the lack of shouki, they are living much better here then they ever did in that oppressive environment. Every month they take a hot springs trip to recover shouki and completely refresh their magic energy.

AT0M finds themselves helping the Detective Agency to help their close friends Yako and Godai, but is quickly reigned in by Neuro and his shenanigans. Being away from the Demon Realm so long, interacting with Neuro stresses them out but also gives them excitement they been missing and craving for so long.
