Single and multiple switch systems, along with screen scanning, provide computer accessibility for many students with fine and gross motor limitations. It is important for educators and students to understand the benefits and challenges that are a part of using switch systems and screen scanning to control a computer.
This one-hour module is a part of our Game of Access training services, and is designed to introduce you to switch scanning. You have four activities to complete:
Let's get started!
Activity 1 - Watch the Accessing Computers with Switches video below.
Activity 2 - Complete the ScanningWizard.com activity, completing at least one phase of the single switch assessment and one scanning test assessment. You can use the space bar on the keyboard to simulate a switch for these assessments. Print the document below and follow the step-by-step instructions.
Activity 4 - Additional Exploration
Explore the Assistive Technology Image Gallery, looking at Mouse Emulation, Switch Systems, and Wrist & Arm Supports.
