Dr. Aswathy M.

I am a Ph. D. graduate from Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala – 695547, India). My doctoral research involves development of novel stochastic meshless methods for linear and nonlinear problems in structural mechanics. I continued as a research associate (RA) at IIST after completing my Ph. D. There, I developed stochastic techniques for structural dynamics problems using meshless method. Currently I am working on applying differential and inverse differential quadrature methods.

During my RAship at Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIST Thiruvananthapuram for the past six months, I assisted the faculty members in teaching Structural Dynamics course to PG students and conducting Strength of Materials (SoM) Lab to UG students. The experiments in SoM lab include Tension Test on Mild Steel, Compression test on wood, Brinell hardness test, Vickers and Rockwell hardness test, and Spring test. As a part of teaching assistance, I have given an introduction on programming using Matlab/Python, introduction to writing tools like LaTEX and discussion on various visualization/ plotting tools, to UG and PG students. I have taken classes on experimental error analysis as well.

During my Ph.D., I assisted the faculty members of Aerospace Engineering Department, IIST, in teaching courses like Finite element method, and Advanced Mechanics of Solids. I introduced Meshless Methods and their applications to UG, PG, and Ph.D. students. This I continued in my RA period as well. I assisted in conducting the Aerospace Structures Lab for UG students, both offline and online modes. Experimental options using Column buckling apparatus, Thin-walled cylindrical pressure vessel apparatus, Unsymmetrical bending/shear center measurement apparatus, Strain gauge trainer apparatus, Shear force in a beam apparatus, Deflection of Beams/cantilever apparatus and Continuous/indeterminate beam apparatus etc., are made available in this lab. During the time of covid pandemic, I developed a MATLAB application for teaching the concepts of buckling of columns through online mode, while assisting Aerospace Structures Lab to UG students.

Before joining IIST as a Ph.D. scholar, I worked as an Assistant Professor (Ad-hoc), in the Department of Civil Engineering, Government College of Engineering Kannur. There I taught subjects like Construction Technology and Computer programming and computational methods to UG students. I have also handled the Computer Aided Design Lab for UG students. I have supervised Surveying workshops for UG students.

I am currently looking for faculty/postdoctoral positions in India/Abroad.
