When news started spreading that Rec Room was shutting down, it honestly hit harder than we expected. For a lot of people, Rec Room was more than just a game. It was where friendships were made, late-night memories happened, and where an entire community grew together over the years.
That feeling of loading into the old dorm room, hearing the familiar sounds, joining friends, and spending hours just hanging out — that’s something we didn’t want to disappear forever.
That’s why we created Astro.
Astro is our way of preserving the 2018 era of Rec Room — an older version of the game that many players remember as one of the most iconic times in its history. We wanted to bring back the atmosphere, the simplicity, and the nostalgia that made those years feel special.
This project wasn’t made to replace Rec Room or compete with it. It was made because we care about the memories tied to it. We know there are thousands of players who grew up with these older builds, and losing access to them felt like losing a piece of gaming history.
As developers and longtime players ourselves, we wanted a place where people could still log in, meet friends, explore old rooms, and relive those moments again. Astro exists because nostalgia matters, and communities like this deserve to be remembered.
At the end of the day, Astro is built by people who simply didn’t want the feeling of old Rec Room to fade away.
