The mother of the litter! Whiskey was born in North Carolina on 3/14/15 and came to Northwest Arkansas with her owners in 2015. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is her name and she lives up to it daily, making us want to drink whiskey and say WTF all the time! She comes from a long line of hunting dogs but is an absolutely wonderful family dog. She tirelessly retrieves sticks from the woods and loves to play in the creek.
The father of the litter! Teddy was bred and raised in Oklahoma at Hickory Creek Chesapeakes, born on 11/29/16. He has been gorgeous from the moment he was born. While he occasionally goes hunting, his favorite pastime is showing off in the show ring! He is currently working on his AKC Championship status.
Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are a breed that are commonly used for hunting. Chessies are solid-colored, with fur ranging from a chocolatey shade of brown to a sedge or dead grass, and most have a yellow-amber eyes. Slightly larger than a lab, Chessies possess a distinctive wavy coat that is oily to the touch, allowing water to roll off their fur like a duck. Perhaps because of this feature, Chessies love water, and in their opinion endlessly retrieving sticks from the bottom of a creek may be one of life's greatest pleasures (other than hanging out with their human, of course).
Chessies are very emotionally complex dogs, known for their tenacity and resilience. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever takes to training well, but often they have a mind of their own and can stubbornly pursue their own path. Though known for being very tough, Chessies have a soft side and are very devoted to their family. They are very protective of their owners and make wonderful companions.
"They enjoy dog sports such as tracking, hunting, field trials, and obedience, as well as retrieving and swimming... They are intelligent, hardworking, and alert dogs with a calm nature and great endurance."
"He was bred to work in an incredibly hostile and unforgiving environment, and it shows. This breed is tough enough to withstand almost anything Mother Nature throws at him... But though physically tough as nails, the Chessie brings a sensitive soul to the table, and is very devoted to his family. Chessies are smart, biddable, and eager to please their loved ones. Your Chessie will be by your side. He'll be right there with you, up for the next adventure."
"The Chessie is the Sherman tank of the retriever breeds... He’s a serious hunting dog built to withstand the brutally cold, rough waters of the Eastern Seaboard, in particular the Chesapeake Bay where he was created to hunt waterfowl such as geese and ducks. The Chessie is possessed of a nature that is more protective and less welcoming to strangers than that of many sporting dogs, but that doesn’t make him bad-tempered. He is fond of and careful with children... Chessies enjoy spending time with their family, and with his family he’s happy and completely loyal."
