This is an ongoing work with Joseph Levy. They have designed and implemented a program to generate optimal schedules for an international tournament held annually in Florida-US. The tournament (known as Maccabi Games) involve several teams from different countries playing multiple sports during the same event. The 2018 instance has 110 teams playing 15 sports, all the games taking place at 20 locations/fields over 10 days.
Using Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) techniques, they obtained high-quality schedules for 2017 and 2018 instances by running the program for less than three hours—the previous approach used to take about two months just to produce a feasible schedule.
