Lewy Body Dementia(LBD) is the second most common dementia after Alzheimer's Disease, and as of 2021, a cure is yet to be developed. This study aims to dive deeper into the study of Ayurveda (a natural system of medicine, originated in India more than 3,000 years ago) by testing the effects of Commiphora Mukul(guggul) with Pure Cow Ghee (Clarified butter) on Lewy Body Dementia. LBD affects 1.4 million people in US and is the second most common dementia after Alzheimer’s. Currently, Over-the-counter medications for LBD target symptoms rather than addressing the primary cause.
This experiment is to test if the herbs such as guggul could prevent, improve, or relieve LBD symptoms. In this experiment, NL5901 Caenorhabditis elegans will be exposed to the guggul and cow ghee then imaged and analyzed under the fluorescence microscope. Based on the graphs and data, there is a clear indication that the low concentration of guggulu with cow ghee has a significant difference in fluorescence compared to the control group, and therefore, proves the hypothesis. Future studies include testing with more trials and on different organisms.
