Abstract

This initial attraction concept project is based on the movie WALL-E. "Blue Sky" phase. The aim is to illustrate the riding experience integrated with multisensory elements and mimic the journey of WALL-E from the truck on Earth to the outer space adventure. The design primarily focuses on the riding route, the interaction, and the vehicle. This riding experience encourages the audience to imagine temporarily being away from Earth, experiencing the journey, and in advance appreciating our planet.

Queue Line (Outdoor)

The attraction begins with the scene on the abandoned Earth, which is dusty, full of garbage, and numerous garbage cubes generated by WALL-E. With the elements like scrap metal, garbage cubes, lonely streetlights, and gritty ground mimic the desolate atmosphere.

The ride begins at the yellowish truck scene, known as WALL-E's house. The design aims to evoke a sense of loneliness, romance, and neatness in the space.

Ride Vehicle

The attraction riding vehicle is inspired by the hoverchair in the movie WALL-E. A hoverchair is a futuristic chair seen on the spaceship Axiom. It is a type of floating chair that allows people to move without walking on their feet. It is also self-propelled that provides advanced technology and convenience for the users.

I have been a super fan of Disney amusement parks for decades, and as I have grown up and visited both Disneyland and Walt Disney World more and more, I have become increasingly interested in the magical and immersive experience they created. Moreover, I have also developed a greater appreciation for the design and imaginative aspects of these parks.

Last winter break, I revisited Walt Disney World, which I had first visited in 2008. Once again, I was in awe of the incredible atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed examining every design detail in the park. I particularly love analyzing the sophisticated designs from the start to the conclusion of each ride, including their locations, facade appearances, the reactions and interactions of people while waiting in line, and the remarkable coherence throughout each ride.

As an Industrial designer, I strongly feel that creating immersive experiences that elicit a sense of wonder and leave a lasting positive impression, is a mission that I would wholeheartedly love to pursue. Carrying the excitement and memorable feeling back with me, my mind became filled with various thoughts about Disney Parks, and I started to depict those ideas into images. During that time, I was wondering, “Why isn’t there a WALL-E attraction in the park?” Instead of waiting for the answer, I would rather create a WALL-E ride in my own version. Therefore, here is the concept project- “Back to Earth.” The project is based on the movie WALL-E, and inspired by those delicate details and experiences in the Disney Parks.
