Dragonfire Tavern is in its beginning stages of discovering who they are. This project helped me expand my skills, and really pushed me outside of my comfortzone, to create a more illustrative design. For me, this is one of those rare projects where you get to create something for someone else that you're equally as passionate about. Here, I explain some of my processes while designing.
Beginning Stages
I started with a hand-drawn sketch of a dragon, and I knew that there had to be a D20 in this design. I also wanted it to really scream medieval tavern. I experimented a lot with different textures, shading techniques, and typography. In the process, I learned new techniques and skills in Adobe Illustrator.
This isn't just a sign that will hang outside the door; this is the beginning of a brand that I am passionate about and can't wait to see grow.
Final Design
After lots of trial and error with different techniques and styles, this is the final design. It was a challenge to create the shadows on the dragon itself, but one I was glad to take on. I am particularly proud of the D20 dice, challenging my skills with typography.
Future changes include updating the banner at the bottom to better match the overall composition of the logo.
