The ASEM LLL Hub Regional Centre for South Asia organises diverse activities and events throughout the year including Conferences, Seminars, Workshops and so on. While some are frequent, others are occasional. During these events, various stakeholders are mobilised to exchange information about their learning needs, share resources (like infrastructure, expertise, funding etc.), extend opportunities for lifelong learning, collaborate with each other and find connecting dots so that initiatives can be managed at the macro-level, and linked under the umbrella project of creating Lifelong Learning Ecosystems along with its virtual counterpart (Virtual Learning City Project). Further, these events and activities create awareness about lifelong learning and make the contribution of the host and supporting partners visible. Thus, these events act as a platform for further planning and initiatives to create a lasting impact of our initiatives. You can check out some of our frequent activities and events below.
To create awareness regarding lifelong learning in South Asia, the ASEM Regional Centre for South Asia organises the Honourable ASEM Chair's South Asia Mission every year between November and January. This comprises of a diverse range of activities and events with various target groups and stakeholders including Conferences, seminars, workshops, panel discussions, field visits, high-profile meetings with political decision-makers, administrators, heads of institutions, advocacy groups, civil society actors working at the grassroot levels, researchers, and so on.. The activities and events can be formal, non-formal or informal and do not restrict to any specific disciplinary boundaries. There is no fixed format of these events. The Centre engages in whatever it can, to promote learning in most innovative ways. For details of our previous missions, see our timeline below. if you are intersted in promoting lifelong learning with us between the coming November and January, see where we are in our Upcoming Events map and join us or invite us!
Since its establishment in 2022, the ASEM Regional Centre has organised two Annual Conferences. Both Conferences engaged a large number of stakeholders and led to policy declarations, publications, and follow-up collaborations for projects and research work. For details, you can visit our timeline below. Our upcoming Conference titled: Towards Lifelong Learning Ecosystems for a Sustainable Future is planned to take place from 10-12 November 2025 at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut, Kerala India. The Conference will launch the VIRTUAL Learning City Project (the virtual counterpart of the Lifelong Learning Ecosystems Project conceived by ASEM LLL Hub Regional Centre for South Asia) and a Learning Neighbourhood Campaign as a part thereof.
The Conference is designed a bit differently from other Conferences as it offers opportunities beyond the traditional paper presentations, symposia, scientific discussions and formal networking opportunities. Apart from the traditional research-oriented activities, the Conference offers dedicated sessions for collaborations over projects, possibilities for advocacy, informal networking through recreational and fun sessions, and opportunities before and after the Conference in case you plan to arrive early or stay over for a longer period of time in South Asia. Our partners are keen to offer both pre-and post-Conference possibilities for work (including lectures, workshops, sabbaticals, internships, study visits, and the like), and holidays (in the South Asian region (especially India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal)). Details regarding the pre- and post-Conference opportunities for work and holidays will be updated shortly on the Conference Website. If you want to engage in visiting research possibilities, teaching and learning, or other activities for a longer period of time and have some specific queries, you are most welcome to contact us.

Promoting Lifelong Learning for women and girls is one of the cross-cutting themes of all ASEM Research Networks. The ASEM LLL Hub has joined hands with the UNESCO Institute of Lifelong Learning to work in this area.
The ASEM Regional Centre for South Asia contributes to this through various projects and initiatives. During the Women's Day Celebration on the 8th of March every year, the Centre acknowledges the work of one woman in promoting lifelong learning in South Asia and recognises her as the "Woman of the Year."
The choice of the candidate is done through a fair and transparent process with no fee or expenses involved on the part of the nominated candidates and the Awardee.
