About us

Physiological Signals and Systems Laboratory has been stablished in early 2016 at Automatic Control and Systems Engineering Department, University of Sheffield, UK. The lab is directed by Dr Mahnaz Arvaneh.

In our research, we combine analytical and experimental techniques and develop novel signal processing and pattern recognition algorithms to better understand how our physiological systems (particularly the nervous system) work in healthy and diseased states. Through our research, we aim to improve our understanding of the human body, both to address fundamental questions in the control of physiological systems and to develop improved therapeutic, assistive, adaptive and rehabilitative technologies for a variety of conditions.
