Arumai Illam is a registered charitable society located in Chozhanpettai, Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu. Founded in 1987, Arumai Illam has been a beacon of care and compassion for the most vulnerable members of society — particularly senior citizens, destitutes, and intellectually disabled children.
Our work is rooted in the belief that every human being deserves dignity, love, and the right to live in a safe, nurturing environment, regardless of their age, ability, or background.
A peaceful and secure home for:
Abandoned elderly individuals who have no family or support
Destitutes who are homeless or neglected
We provide:
Comfortable shelter and daily care
Nutritious meals
Medical attention and regular check-ups
Companionship and emotional support
A loving atmosphere where they are treated with respect and kindness
A dedicated special school that serves children and young adults with intellectual disabilities, focusing on care-based education and skill-building.
We help our students with:
Basic academic learning
Social skills and emotional development
Daily living activities such as grooming, hygiene, and communication
Individual attention and customized learning plans
We aim to help each child become as independent and confident as possible, and to support their families with resources and counseling.
At Arumai Illam, we strongly believe that compassion is strength. We stand for:
Compassion – because love and care can heal wounds that medicine cannot
Dignity – because every life deserves respect
Commitment – to serve the most neglected with honesty and hope
Arumai Illam is more than just a home or a school — it is a family for those who have none, and a lifeline for those who are often forgotten.
