Welcome to Art!
Still life art is art that shows objects, including things from nature and things made by humans. Here are some helpful videos. Remember, if you can draw lines and shapes, you can draw anything!
Draw a Watering Can Using Shape
Find an object, like a teddy bear.
2. What main shapes and lines do you see? Try tracing them with your finger.
3. Draw the main shapes and lines.
4. Add details, texture, shading and color!
This artwork is by illustrator Nina Chakrabarti. You can try drawing flowers, plants, shells, sticks, rocks, leaves and other natural items!
Here is a shoe drawing made by a high school student. What other objects made by people can you draw? Food, technology, art supplies, toys...what else?
Drawing from observation means drawing what you see. Every time you draw from observation, it is like doing art exercise. You strengthen your brain, eyes, and hand all together to improve your drawing skills! It can be challenging, but the more you practice the better you get. Stuffed animals, toys, natural objects, or household items are great for drawing practice. You can even try drawing them from different points of view: front, back, top, side, bottom! photo credit: M.C. Gillis' AwesomeArt.com
Drawing 3D forms like cylinders, cubes, cones, spheres and rectangular prisms is a great way to practice drawing skills. If you are good at drawing shapes and forms, you can draw anything: for example, draw a sphere and cone together to show an ice cream cone.
