George Leong is a music producer, arranger, and composer, with a substantive contribution to the international Chinese music scene, and active in music education and the digital media arts. I am engaged in the labour movement as an exco-member of NICA, supporting freelance Arts instructors; and a founding director of SingPop Music Limited.
My interest in standing for the Arts NMP grows from my present advocacy for self-employed creative professionals, facilitating tighter connections between governmental agencies, with a passion for musicians to have a sustainable career and broadened market.
And I have much to learn from the broader Arts Community to extend this passion to ensure fair and transparent funding for the Arts, advocate for both ‘high’ and ‘popular’ Arts to be recognized as important cultural and marketable capitals, tightening the collaboration between various Arts, Community, and Media agencies, and maximizing the potential of existing trade and culture agreements.
As an Arts NMP, I would like to take on the issue of 1) raising the profile of Self-Employed Arts Professionals as a substantive and significant part of the industry, with access to professional development and career advances, 2) enacting legislation to enhance the creative rights of artists.
