Sarasbaug
Sarasbaug is set in the era of the Peshwas, when the Maratha administration shaped Pune into a centre of power, culture, and devotion. The temple on the island was commissioned by the Peshwas as a place of quiet worship away from the bustle of the city. Priests would cross the lake by boat to perform daily rituals, and the surrounding gardens became a space where soldiers, ministers, and families found respite.
The artwork captures this intersection of statecraft and spirituality, a reminder that the Maratha polity was not only a military force but also a civilisation that invested in sacred architecture, public spaces, and community life. Sarasbaug stands as a memory of a time when governance, devotion, and landscape were woven together by the Peshwas into a living cultural fabric.
