Chandra and Varchas

This artwork portrays a reunion rarely depicted in popular retellings. Varchas, the son of Chandra (the moon god), was born on earth as Abhimanyu, destined to live only sixteen years as his father could not be separated from him for too ling. When the young Abhimanyu fell in the Kurukshetra war, one father, Arjuna, lost his beloved son. But another father, Chandra, regained his. The piece holds both truths at once: grief and return, loss and restoration. It reflects the dual nature of Abhimanyu’s identity, mortal hero and celestial child. Thus the portrayal of him shuning like a star, because he indeed was one. Chandra & Varchas is ultimately about the strange symmetry of fate: how one life can be both tragedy and homecoming, depending on who is looking.
