Art for All Seasons Online Gallery

Art for All Seasons: Landscapes of the American Chestnut Land Trust is the culmination of a year (Sept. 2023- Sept. 2024) of local artists creating plein air works of art depicting the beautiful landscapes found throughout the American Chestnut Land Trust's preserved lands surrounding Parkers Creek in Calvert County, Maryland.

An "In Person" Exhibition will be displayed at Annmarie Sculpture Garden in Solomons, Md. Sept 28-Oct 13th, 2024.

"Fern Gyutaku tile"

11" tall by 10.5", raku clay

I collected and pressed native ferns into a slab of clay. The piece was raku fired after glazing to leave the background bare and the fern leaves coppery green. The tile is mounted on Wedi board, grouted in place with dark gray grout and ready to hang.

South Side Trail Head, Trail Marker. Wandered around the area of the barn, sketching in my book and photographing (iPhone 14 Pro) various scenes & items of interest. It was December 2, 2023 and chilly.
The canvas was initially painted in the studio with several acrylic colors, including hot pink, squeezed onto my trowel and then dragged across the canvas for the background layers. I added trees trunks & the post with rough brushstrokes, and the leaves with a variety of stencils and mark makers. Finishing details used brushes and Posca pens.

"South Side Barn"

I sat and sketched several views of the barn at the South Side Trailhead as well as photographed it with my iPhone 14 Pro on Oct 8, 2023.
This is a more realistic piece, trying to be a fairly accurate painting of the barn, so it was carefully drawn and painted in acrylic with brushes. Although based on my sketches in early Oct, I wanted to have more of a sense of the Fall colors, so I returned on Oct 27 to capture what I could. Happily, the red bush to the right of the barn showed up.

South-side Trailhead on Jan 16, 2024, view of picnic table with barn covered in snow, pencil sketch and photographs with my iPhone 14 Pro.
Snow fell during the night and I drove to the South-side Trailhead to capture the areas around the barn before the snow melted. This was likely the only snow fall that I was likely to get for the year so I made numerous sketches and photographs in the area around and away from the barn.

"Seasons Greetings"

When I rushed to visit the South-side barn area while snow was on the ground, I was amazed to see 'Seasons Greetings' written on the barn's black board and it made the perfect companion piece for a snow scene in mid-winter. So thanks to the writer!
