Our Story
Army of Angels was named after the local Winter Park, Central Florida, and National community of people who supported Kate Demory, Craig Russell and a homeless and parentless former Winter Park HS student, upon being released from jail for getting in a fight at a group home in 2019. Amonte Greene had been homeless and parentless since 9th grade and dropped out of Winter Park High School after 10th grade. Amonte called his former Glenridge MS math teacher, Kate Demory, for help after being released from jail in Seminole County. Kate and her husband, Craig Russell, both high school teachers, reached out to the local community to help get Amonte back on his feet. The response was a resounding "yes" as people from all over the country responded to help and share their own stories of adversity.
We lovingly refer to these selfless people who assisted Amonte without question or condition, as "angel warriors". Kate and Craig have continued to share the needs and voice of our youth, teens, and young adults and began to see that there were many people who wanted to help local youth, they simply needed to know of the need. Army of Angels is passionate about giving children, youth, and young adults the space and grace to share their story, the opportunity to ask for help, while giving the community of angels an opportunity to positively impact the trajectory of a young person's life.
