Bass Boost is no longer shipped with Audacity. Among the reasons why it has been discontinued is the fact that if too much boost is inadvertently applied, it will permanently damage the audio (non-correctable distortion).

But, after you do anything that might boost the volume, you should normalize (adjust the volume for peaks to 0dB or less) before saving, especially if you save (export) to an intger format (such as a regular 16-bit or 24-bit WAV file).

@emmrecs I have exactly the same on my Nexus 7. I never noticed before as I don't use the equaliser. On my SGS2 both the bass boost and surround sound appear greyed-out. I'm going to play with it some more before escalating it to the spotify staff.

It happens with my with JBL E30 Synchros Headphones (wired). I've never used wireless headphones so I can't tell you if it happens with them as well. What is interesting it only happens with Bass Boost, not with the Sorround Sound and EQ presets (Flat, Normal, Club etc ) Spotify remeber my bass bosst level as long as the hedphones are connected. When I plug them out and plug in again (and also turn off spotify and turn on again) it resets. I would be grateful for any advice or help in this matter. If you need any further informations pls let me know

However.... That makes sense when I am switching between headphones and car bluetooth, as using equaliser + bass boost with my car audio just sounds bad. So when my phone resets the equalizer with car bluetooth radio connected it just sounds better (I can adjust audio settings on car audio).

somehow everytime i force close the app, the equalizer goes default eventhough it says the eq is enabled. so to bring the bass boost back i should re-toggle the eq button. waiting for the issue to be fixed

Additionally equalizer is not working (it is flat - I can hear that) and it is starting after few minutes (I can hear that too) or I have to open settings and turn it off and on again to make it working.

Looks like program is resetting bass booster (probably) to not destroy the internal speaker when all headphones are disconnected. And when you connect phones again it is not restoring previous settings.

So basically after the latest update to the armoury crate and to my headphone drivers, my ASUS TUF GAMING H1's audio quality gone down so much that its almost unusable, I found that for some reason a new setting was turned on in windows after the update. Turning this off fixed the poor audio quality, BUT it did not fix the fact that i'm unable to use the equalizer part of the armoury. Virtual Surround on/off doesn't change anything, the bass booster doesn't change the bass level, and the reverb doesn't add reverb to the sound.

Here's everything I tried so far but didn't work:

In order to get the nice bass sound on your headphones on Ubuntu 16.04+ and Mint 18+, you first need to have good headphones. I'm using Apple's headphones. The next thing you need to do is to put the preset on Party and slide the first column just little up, around ~15.4db and you will get that nice bass output just like on Windows machine.

I'd like to add few details to Vladimir's comment about PulseEffects. On Android I've been using V4A audio effects application which greatly increased audio quality, especially bass boost. Unfortunately, I've been missing this kind of app on Linux for years and here it is - PulseEffects.

In order to get a powerful and clean bass boost in PulseEffects app, you need to manually reduce audio output in order to compensate bass boost (otherwise your speakers will sound like trash). Do the following in PulseEffects app:

What I am requesting could easily be done with the graphic equalizer of 31 bands or more but I have noticed that the bands are not well programmed (?) since if I raise, say, 3 knobs from 30hz to 70hz, these increase frequencies very far from them, checking with An RTA spectrum analyzer shows that it does not raise the frequencies as they should be.

This as an example if I want to boost 7db having as bands 20hz 40hz 60hz 80hz 100hz if I boost 40hz the normal thing for a graphic Eq is that it boosts 7db at 40hz with a natural drop until it reaches 20hz on the left and 60hz on the right but yes I want to do that in the Poweramp graphic equalizer taking the same example 40hz +7db has a drop but it drops beyond 60hz that is the case with all bands.

Remember that with a lot of boost, you will need to apply a negative preamp gain to prevent clipping your output. Otherwise the limiter will kick in, or worse case you will max out the DAC and the intended EQ adjustments will no longer be as precise.

Since 3 updates ago (beta version), I can no longer play audio over Bluetooth without the audio being distorted. This only happens when using the equalizer and bass boost at lower volume levels, but if I turn up the volume enough you can also hear it.

Interesting. The other day I thoughtmy bluetooth speaker was blown because the bass was distorted and vibrating bad and any volume. Hadn't noticed it since then. Fine on the bluetooth headphones and car stereo.

In the olden days apparently you could pass an audio session ID of 0 to provide a global equalizer or bass boost. Unfortunately, this is deprecated, and an ID of 0 now indicates something went wrong. I came across this question from 2015, so this has been deprecated for a long time.

I've got the Virtuoso SE, on firmware 5.3.70 and dongle 5.7.115. Just updated to 4.22.203 on Windows 11 Insider Preview 22593.1 and same, equalizer won't work anymore. I did a clean install of Icue, a clean install of the drivers, tried eq-ing, tried 7.1 and nada. I don't know what is going on. I think that something broke with the update I just did to Icue because previous to doing it the Equalizer window worked perfectly.

Same with me im using the Corsair void elite pro i just updated icue and then my equalizer stopped working ive been trying to fix it ever since (i just updated today btw restarted about 8 times)im also on windows 10

when i have no effects on my void i go to windows 11 sound settings and then the settings for the void, there i enable the slider for enhanced audio and then the equalizer and surround effects actually work.

I need help I bought a new Samsung Galaxy A14 yesterday and I was setting up sound effects and Dolby Atmos.... the problem is that I don't see the equalizer so where is the problem? I tried to put the smartphone in the charger, but the equalizer simply cannot be displayed, so what should I do?

I recently bought a Sony headphone which has "bass boost", and I really love it. I love it so much that I increased the bass (low frequencies) on every device I use it on, with like 7db and decreased the overall gain (even on windows I use a system wide equalizer). Which means I'm not really listening to loud music, I don't hear any distortion, and the bass has this really nice humming.

You might damage your headphones quicker by using more low frequency. I wouldn't go very technical but lower frequency requires more speaker motion in lesser time. Just imagine it like always driving tour car in higher rpms. You running more bass will make some difference but not a huge amount of difference in you not running more bass stuff. Do it as you please but also make sure to not go very loud since YOU CAN CAUSE HEARING DAMAGE BY LISTENING TO LOUD SOUNDS. Also if you hear some weird sounds try to back off and if it fixes the problem, this means there is a limit for your headphones. Hope this helps you make the decision. 589ccfa754
