I am a Peng Tsu Ann Visiting Fellow at the National University of Singapore, working under the mentorship of Huanchen Bao.
I completed my PhD at the University of Maryland, College Park under the supervision of Xuhua He, HKU & Jeff Adams, UMD. Before that, I did a masters at IMSc, Chennai in India, advised by Amritanshu Prasad.
I study the geometry of Shimura varieties modulo $p$ from a combinatorial and group-theoretic perspective, using tools from geometric representation theory, Coxeter groups, and Hecke algebras. My work focuses on affine Deligne–Lusztig varieties and their role in understanding Newton stratifications and bad reduction phenomena. I also have a bystander’s interest in canonical bases, total positivity, and quantum groups.
My email address is arghyas0 [dot] nus [dot] edu [dot] sg.
Starting in Fall 2026 I'll be a postdoc at Mathematics Münster, working with Eva Viehmann.
