I am a Peng Tsu Ann Visiting Fellow at the National University of Singapore.
I completed my PhD at the University of Maryland, College Park, working under the supervision of Xuhua He, HKU and Jeff Adams, UMD. Before that, I did a masters at IMSc, Chennai in India.
My research lies at the intersection of arithmetic geometry, algebraic groups, and representation theory, with connections to the Langlands program. I study the geometry of Shimura varieties modulo $p$ from a combinatorial and group-theoretic perspective, using tools from geometric representation theory, Coxeter groups, and Hecke algebras. My work focuses on affine Deligne–Lusztig varieties and their role in understanding Newton stratifications and bad reduction phenomena. I also have a bystander’s interest in canonical bases, total positivity, and quantum groups.
My email address is arghyas0 [dot] nus [dot] edu [dot] sg.
I am currently on the job market for positions starting Fall 2026.
