Deformation Micromechanics and Contact Mechanics
My PhD project focuses on the evolution and reactivation of faults and fractures at crustal depth as a response to the deformation. My goal is to have a better understanding of the micro-processes that preceeds a large scale macroscopic failure manifested by seismic events. Currently I am using time-lapse Synchrotron X-ray CT coupled with compressive triaxial apparatus to study the in-situ deformation in various crustal rocks. My research has a direct implication on understanding how the porosity-permeability evolution due to fault reactivation controls fluid-flow at the crustal depth and how induced seismicity occurs.
Fault Slip Potential in CO2 injection
My M.Tech thesis focused on the Geomechanical constraints of CO2 injection in the NCoE-CCU lab in IITB. I applied the fault stability analysis using Fault Slip Potential approach in carbonate formations of Mumbai-High field. My thesis was selected as the best master's dissertation and received the 'A. Parthasarathy - B. Shanmugam' award of excellence for the academic year 2023-24 at IIT Bombay.
