Navigating through tomorrow, today ...

The future of organic architecture management is all in your head, ... think!

Architected Futures is a sole proprietor endeavor with an infrastructure service mission founded by Joe Van Steen, a retired software applications architect who was employed from 1970 through 2005 by Bank of America in a systems engineering capacity. My intent is:

  • to further my own education in an industry that I have found engaging, enjoyable and rewarding throughout my career;
  • to contribute to my profession and humanity in my retirement;
  • to engage with others in educational inquiry on matters for sharing of insights or experience;
  • to implement and share, as FOSS, an operational version of my technology platform, EATS, that can be enabled as an information encyclopedia, a personal workstation or a virtual services agent for digital affairs;
  • to contribute to humanity through technology designed for sharing knowledge and understanding, based on my experiences and views concerning information management methods and techniques gather over the course of my continuing career in IT;

EATS is the product of my information technology architect's blacksmith forge. It evolves as my thinking evolves.

  • to describe an integrated scheme for architected system management, based on empiricism and cross-validated with theory that is forward focused and can be applied independent of scale, IMHO, from personal planner, to team, business, community, regional and government) as an integrated, collective, multi-generational, architecture planning model;
  • to explain, from my perspective, AI and the significance of IT and the Information Age;
  • to establish a value-based metrics system for "use of computers to aid the architectural designer and {urban} planner" in architectural evaluation; adapting Nicholas Negroponte's Architecture Machine concept to personal desktop and mobile phone;
  • to share a planning model, and planning framework, architected for effectiveness toward intent, based on a form of Building Code for abstract information architecture integrating Stafford Beer's Viable System Model, Systems Engineering, and a philosophy of humanity; with the aim
  • to help my grandson Mason, and those who follow, better comprehend what constitutes wisdom in decision making.

Not necessarily in that order.

  • AF Web App - Launch My Google App
  • AF Concept Catalog - Launch My Workstation
  • AF Architected Information Catalog - My Evolving Information Access and Management Utility Design. GIS Catalogs have the most extensive detail of all data banks, and model the need for layers which deal with gradation and granularity concerns across large scale zoom in and out of contextual focus. The EATS model requires the ability to smoothly move in both discrete and continuous form through time and space. GIS Catalogs are the way a computer knows "where things are" in space. Timelines define where things are in time.
