I came up with some HTML and JavaScript and wrote a web-based timer specifically with archery and ease-of-use in mind. The idea behind this is that you could bring with you a laptop and use as a timer when training or practicing. The entire thing is completely mouse controlled. Here's the link, if you want to check it out (read the safety precautions at the bottom first!). It's pretty easy to set up; just click the timer itself to change the round time (10, 20, 40, 80, 120, 160, 200 or 240 seconds), and click the A/B signs to toggle between A/B, C/D and none. To start the timer, simply click on Start/continue. It will start with a 10 second countdown before it counts down the time specified. At 30 seconds, the timer switches to orange. If ABCD is on, it will automatically start a new countdown for the other group when the first one is done. If AB starts, then the AB countdown will finish before the CD starts. After the CD countdown finishes, it signals to retrieve arrows and the finishing group will start next time. Hence, AB-CD, CD-AB, AB-CD and so on.

The devil is in the detail as all coaches know but try explaining that to your student and the response is a blank stare.

Some of them are releasing based on my timing and others are using their own timing.

At all levels of events, World Archery has abolished equipment failures. There will no longer be makeup arrows and archers must shoot in the time allotted. Additional changes can be read in more detail on worldarchery.sport.

The World Archery bylaw change, which reduces the shooting time in qualification and individual Olympic, compound and indoor rounds from 40 seconds per arrow to just 30 seconds, will only apply to world ranking events in 2022, beginning March 1 (this does not apply to Indoor World Series events). This means that USA Archery events will not implement or reflect this change and our event clocks will remain at 40 seconds per arrow.

USA Archery will further evaluate implementation of this rule for international team trials events. Archers who plan to participate in World Ranking Events next season are encouraged to take time to practice shooting under the new timing conditions and take care to consider the clock when shooting national events in preparation for the upcoming international season.

Anyway, I found that fletching your arrows the way it naturally wants to spin definitely adds a very slight advantage in arrow performance and if you are the type to want to split hairs then clocking your arrow is the way to go. If you would like to clock your arrow and find out which way your arrow naturally wants to spin out of the bow this is how you do it.
