The Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy recognizes Arkansas high school students who have studied and attained proficiency in English and one or more other languages. It is awarded by AFLTA (Arkansas Foreign Language Teachers Association) and ARKTESOL (Arkansas Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and has been a collaborative effort between both organizations, K-12 teachers, university faculty, and members of the community. In June 2018, the Arkansas State Board of Education officially endorsed the Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy.
The Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy is a certification that encourages students to pursue biliteracy, honors the skills our students attain, and can be evidence of skills that are attractive to future employers and college admissions offices. Since March 2017, 7,246 biliterate Arkansas high school students have earned the Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy, across 120 high schools, in 43 languages other than English!
Information about language proficiency requirements and testing can be found in the Guide Document above. Please read this thoroughly before beginning the application process. For more information please email ARbiliteracy@gmail.com.
We look forward to receiving your application!
