November 14, 1950 - January 20, 2025
In loving memory of Vicky Rae (Thomas) Shaffer
Vicky Rae (Thomas) Shaffer entered her eternal rest on January 20, 2025, at Saint Anthony’s North Hospital in the ICU, surrounded by family and friends. Vicky fought her cancer battle with extraordinary courage and grace and unfortunately had a cardiac arrest days before her passing. She was 74 years young.
Vicky was born November 14, 1950 in Watertown, South Dakota, grew up in Littleton, Colorado and graduated from Arapaho High School.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leroy Clayton Thomas; her younger sister, Mona Lee (Thomas) Truesdale; and her cherished son and only child, Jason Todd Shaffer.
She is survived by her 96-year-old mother, Leora Ann Thomas; her two younger brothers, Scott Clayton Thomas and Mark Allen Thomas; and her beloved grandson and light of her life, Brandon Lee Shaffer.
Vicky was a true adventurer who embraced life’s many joys, from riding on the back of a horse or a Harley Davidson motorcycle to relaxing near her favorite (H2Obaby)—warm destination beaches or cold mountain lakes. Vicky loved wakeboarding, in fact, she was able to wakeboard one last time this past summer despite her health challenges. She also loved animals and was particularly proud of the volunteer work she did taking care of animals at the Denver zoo.
Her laugh was unforgettable—full, contagious, and guaranteed to brighten any room. She was known for her thoughtful generosity, unmatched gift-giving, and her ability to connect with anyone through meaningful conversations.
Vicky loved her job and deeply appreciated her employer, CLFS Equities, LLLP, that supported her through her health challenges. She found joy in staying busy and caring for the people she worked with, forming bonds that meant a great deal to her.
Vicky was more than a daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and grandmother—she was a treasured friend and a source of light to everyone she met. Her kindness, love, and zest for life leave a legacy that will be cherished forever.
A celebration of Vicky’s life will be held on May 17th on the warm sands of Clayton Farms. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Colon Cancer Foundation, In Care of Lighthouse Family Mortuary, 2525 w 16TH Street #C, Greeley, Colorado 80634.
