Dr. Kevin John O’Connor
July 26, 1951 – November 25, 2018
After his high school years, Kevin served in the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps as an EKG Technician and Hospital Corpsman until Honorably Discharged in 1973. He entered the University Of Missouri School Of Medicine, obtaining his BS/MD in 1981. He finished his surgical Internship, then trained in orthopedic surgery in Kansas City, Missouri. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine in 1986 and spent his professional career as an Emergency Physician in the states of Arizona, California, and Nevada. He was well-regarded by his patients, colleagues and co-workers, as well as the many first responders he mentored and worked alongside. He retired in 2010 after suffering a debilitating heart attack, but insisted on keeping his medical licenses up-to-date until the present.
Kevin was a voracious reader and his unending curiosity drove him to continue reading medical and other scientific literature. There didn’t seem to be a subject that Kevin did not know something about. His favorite hobby was learning more of the universe and its origins, alien theories, world history, theology, Irish culture, world religions, and any other mystery of the universe he came across. Golfing, camping, boating, skiing, lake, and beach activities were enjoyed in the summer, and from a child he enjoyed downhill skiing, riding a Harley, and rooting for his Denver Broncos. He was Cubmaster for Pack 12 in Boulder City, Nevada and served on the board of Lend-a-Hand there. Kevin’s friends and family reached far and wide, and he left a lasting impression wherever he went; in his mind there was hardly anything he could not do.
Kevin passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 after a 19-month-long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife, Gail (of 32 years), 3 children 3 grandchildren, and other loved ones at home when he finally surrendered.
