Notice of Jim’s death really surprised me. We were football team mates. He was our tight-end. He was an outstanding football player. He also had a great sense of humor and did not take it too seriously. I used to refer to him as “Joe Willy” after Joe Namath. He used to refer to me as “Elbows” because I liked to throw forearm shivers into opposing players. After he became a Littleton police officer he would sometimes due security at the high school football games and I would see him and talk to him at the games. I also remember that he suffered a fracture of some kind while chasing and apprehending a suspect who was running away. I thought it odd that he did not suffer any injuries playing football but did when chasing a suspect.
