James Phillips

Jaime passed away on 4-22-2006 from complications from throat cancer.

Jamey, Jamie, Jaime – since our junior high days at Isaac Newton, he was always the height of “cool.” Etched in my memory with the “Mizzies” and many fun times from the past.

Maybe you remember it too? That impish grin that signaled that you were about to be the fall guy of one of his mischievous pranks. But it was a love/hate arrangement. While you really never wanted to be the butt of a practical joke, if you were like me, you loved getting any kind of attention from one of the coolest guys at AHS – the loveable, irrepressible…Mr. Jamie “Frank” Phillips.

I remember a chance encounter with him in the parking lot of a Safeway in his neighborhood about a month before he succumbed…still the same light-hearted chap that I had come to know and love way back in 1964 (?) when he first moved here from Michigan. I remember feeling sad that we hadn’t kept in better touch that night, but assumed that there would be future opportunities to rekindle the old ways. Of course, not nearly as sad as I was at his memorial a few weeks later – feeling sorta gypped by life’s misfortunes, but knowing how lucky I was to have counted him as one of my best friends back in the days when it mattered the most. Adieu, Monsieur Phillips……
